had this problem with npower only they sent me a bill for over £400 so i rang them up and told them i was on a key and they said that they wouls have to check to see if i was telling the truth lol
thats a good point as you cannot change supplier and owe money, I forgot about being told that when I changed. Thanks for reminding me cannot wait to phone them tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind
Just a quick question how did pp change supplier if still had outstanding balance. Ive tried and npower have said no. Not much owing but they are being buggers.
n power are scammers! we had a bill of 440 (not sure if thats what we did owe) which we couldnt pay so we agreed to have a payment meter installed, so much would go towards the debt and the rest went on what we were using. anyway we were putting 30+ week on the meter. after a few months my o/h rang up to see what we owed and the lady said 239 then a few months later he rang again and the bloke he spoke to said it was 700+!!! how the hell can it go up??? they arent getting it, we are going through energy watch and havent heard from N power for months! we also had a gas bill for 650 which i believe is wrong they havent contacted us about that for a while either so i think they were trying to con money out of us. we left them and are now with southern electric and we only put 10 a week on electric meter!!
I've got the same problem with npower.
I have a prepayment gas meter and when I switch supplier they said my clsoing balance was £412 so I phoned them and they said it was a mistake and to ignore it and they would send another. Received it today and saying I owe £243.
Going to phone them on Monday to complain
I had the same problem with British Gas. I ended up going to Energywatch and they sorted it out. Contact them via their website and they will sort it. The company will always say you owe the money but Energywatch will investigate it. Katie x
yep always been on a pay meter, think they are trying to con me to be honest.
if you are on a pay-metre I dont understand how you can owe them money. Have you always been on a pay metre?
Just after some advice, we left npower for our electricity a couple of months back and as our closing statement stated that we didnt owe any money we didnt bother keeping any paper work. We have a key meter so thought we were up to date, although the reason for leaving them was because they tried saying we owed them admit £40 odd, which they later addmitted was their error.
We have now received a letter though the post stating that we owe them £32.02 and this will be past on to debt collectors if we do not pay. I havent phoned them yet as i am hesitant to as we cannot afford to pay this as yet. My query is would we be able to ask them for all past statements to be sent out so we can look into what they are saying, as at one point they owed us money. Was thinking of maybe phoning and explaining that we need the information in order to seek legal advice but not sure what to do.
Anyone been in a similar situation?

we managed to change suppliers because when we were with Npower it was in o/h's name and now we have moved this one is in my name, thats the only way we could do it. n power havent contacted us about the outstanding bill and they have our new address also the old key meter we had at the old place has been taken out as the landlord had to swapped back so she pays bills quarterly so i dont know where Npower would stand with the meter debt anyway, they want to sort themselves out because theres no way im paying 700quid when we were on key meters!
