i just  bought a slow cooker yesterday  and made lemon chicken in it today all i did was

brown my chicken on all sides in a big pan then placed in slow cooker i then added crushed garlic and some oregano i sprinkled some into the cavity then i sprinkled some over the chicken i then added some water to the pan i browned the chicken in just to lift the fat and juices off the bottom of the pan and added the water to the slow cooker i then put it on low for 8 hrs

My tribe like it when I do braising steak in mine - add the braising steak and a few sliced onions, fill with water and an oxo cube for flavour and leave to cook - I usually put mine on when I go out to work about 7am and when I get in at 6pm  its cooked fab, falls to pieces and all I serve it with is chips for DS and DH or mash!! mmmmmmmm

Today I made Barbecue mince & bean bonanza!

Brown mince in pan with onions & garlic. Put in slow cooker with diced carrot, mushrooms, sweetcorn, peas, tin of baked beans, tin of chopped toms and a jar of barbecue cook in sauce. Add a good squirt of tomato puree and some mixed herbs and leave all day on low.

Serve with savoury rice or pasta and garlic bread, or mashed potatoes. Makes a huge pot full so lots left to freeze!

A couple more ideas that are always a big hit in my house...

Spicy sausage, Bean & potato - 1 x onion chopped, 1lb potatoes (chopped in small cubes), 1lb of sausages, tin of baked beans, a few mushrooms halved, 1/4 pint of veg stock, teaspoon of chilli powder and tablespoon of tom puree. Cook on low for about 6-8 hours.  Kids just love this.

Beef stroganoff - 2 x onions chopped, 1 & 1/4 lb of braising/stewing steak cut into cubes & coated in flour, 1/2 pint of beef stock, some mushrooms halved, 1 teaspoon of dried mixed herbs, 1 tablespoon of tom puree.  Cook on low for about 8 hours then just before serving thicken if you need to with cornflour then add 1/4 pint of soured cream.

I never brown, i just bung it all in & never had any probs.

Yesterday i made curry in mine.. I got 3 onions, sliced them, 4 green chillies sliced in half, 2 potatoes, 1carrot, 2tomatoes, 3garlic peices, teaspoon of the following (chilli ppowder, curry powder, cumin powder, corriander powder, ground turmeric and salt) Meat or chicken and any other veg u would like to add.

garlic, onions, salt and a lil bit of oil onto a pan, poured abnout a glass of water in and mixed it, let the onions go soft and then add the powders, all of them.. Mix them and a paste should appear.. Stick the meat in chopped andlet it cook for about 5-10 minutes..

Stick all the ingreiants into the slow cooker and cook on high for 1 hour, then add whichever stock u like, and again pour in, stir and add ur veges chillies and toms.. Let this cook on low for a further 3-4 hours, can even leave it for about 6 hours if u like realy soft vege and meat..

I do curries in mine, using jars, if it seems a bit thick towards the end just add a tin of chopped tomatoes
