Hi girls. I hope you dont mind if i join you. Its always been my dream to be a midwife but at school i just didnt have the confidence in myself or my own abilities to persue it. I even had a weeks placement st the local maternity unit when i was for work expirience. But in the end up i cacelled it and went to do an office job instead. But now at the age of 23 with three children of my own i really feel ready and confident enough to finally go for it. Ive been looking into it and im in touch with someone at pailey uni. Ive applied for 2 different access courses and ive bought the myles, mayes and bailliers books. By the way i got all 3 from ebay for under £30 including postage. Ive had a quick read through and i wanted to say thanks to Emma for the information about the NSF and NICE. Ive copied the pdf's onto my computer so i can have a study through those. Thats about it really.

congratulations charlotte Hope your pregnancy is happy and healthy and I like your determination

Hope everyone is well and doing well

Tracey, did you get to choose the location of the community placement or is it wherever is available? Hope you are still enjoying it.

Jena86 it all depends on where you are in your education. From GCSE's you could do an access to health and social care course which could lead to a midwifery degree. Midwifery degrees tend to be NHS funded, this site may be helpful to you : http://www.nhspa.gov.uk/sgu/default.aspx

Also the site below gives lots of info. Good luck

hey hun yes i drive and to be honest its the matter of getting there more than anything cos then you go around with the midwife, but personally i couldnt do without a car as i need to run around loads dropping and picking up my dd so its a life saver but i suppose depending on where you are placed you could potentially do without it hun x
