I feel a bit brighter about applying to Nottingham university now. A friend of mine who I went to college with applied there to do nursing and she got turned away, they said she has all the right grades but no "life experience" By the time I've applied I'll have been living away from the parental home for 4 years and I'll have been a mum for almost a year and i'll have been working in my part time job for a couple of years too. So ladies by that reckoning we all have a good chance because we have "life experience"

Definately made me feel better. I know that Nottingham is very hard to get in to so fingers crossed

    Glad your interview went well

September seems a long way off, and all I can do in september is apply.

I didnt do an access course, I did A levels in Biology Chemistry and English Literature, I was in my final year when I fell pregnant last year.  So just waiting to reapply for midwifery at uni when UCAS reopens.

    Thanks

Yes i've decided to go for it, I've emailed the uni and they've sent me information about how to go about doing it, I just need to find a nursing or health and social care access course, so going to the local college today and asking because I can't see anything about one on their page, but they might know somewhere else that does it. Also she said does lots and lots of reading (so just trawling through amazon and ebay) and about finding voluntary nursing work for experiance, so bit worried about that but going to ask at the local infirmary's once I start the access course. Is anyone else doing voluntary? She said its very competative but I'm going to do it anyway all we can do is our best right?

mum2twins is in her second year of uni hun Anything is possible just might be hard work at times I'm looking forward to the challenge of juggling uni and my baby. You'd have to find out about childcare arrangements. However have a look at http://www.nhspa.gov.uk/sgu/default.aspx
to see what the nhs bursury covers ( I dont want to misquote it its been a while since I had a read )

Good luck hun if you do decide to go for it

    Hi everyone

Sorry I don't post here much but was told about this thread, I'm seriously thinking about going to uni to study midwifery, but I'm due another baby in september and we'll have 3 children then with husband working too, is it possible to do this with children? because they'll need childcare. I've sent off for information on the course but I think i'll have to talk to somebody at the uni too about this, has anyone done it?

KDW09 have you found out if there is any support for you with regard to course fees with or without income support?

How is everyone else getting on? Hope everyone is doing great. I'm getting impatient waiting for september to arrive it seems sooooooooo long away And all I can do then is apply its not like I'm waiting to start my course its so frustrating. 5 months until I can apply and then even if I get in its another 12-18 months before I'll start the course depending on if I start in September or March feels like a lifetime away.

    Anyone had any interviews recently?

If your DP moves in and you lose the right to claim IS you might still be entitled to help towards fees if you and your partner are on low income but I've no idea how much the access course will be.

My advise to you would be to get in touch with the college admissions and ask them about fees and help towards fees for your course as I think its one of those things that will differ depending on area.

    Best of luck hun x
