i was 16 wen i had my 1st dd and they said that my mum had to stop claiming for me and i had to claim for myself this wasnt that long ago...well im 22 now

but reguardless as to wether u live with ur mum or not once u turn 16 u can claim for urself and certainly ur child

it does sound like ur mum is taking money from u thats urs and ur babys and thats not fair my mum would never have dreamed of doin that

i think you should go to the job center and speak to somone yourdelf so that ure clear on wat u can do

    hope you get it sorted

Heyy i found out i was pregnant when i just turned 16 and my midwife told me my mam had to claim for me and the baby when she was born but when i went to sort it all out i got told i had to claim for my self as i was sixteen and old enough to :S so i did and i have been on income support  since and now im claiming child tax credits and i get family allowance and im going to college this year and they told me i can also get ema from that on top of what i already get if that makes sense

Sara 17 And Olivia 6 Months

But i have a frind who is ths same age and has a 3month old and she got told she couldnt claim for herself as she was too young buh when her baby was born got told her mam couldnt claim for him and therfore nobody got no money for him so she got told to go on income support and now she gets the same as me but she had a load of fuss becoz of this

    Dnt no If This Helps

also forgot to say the 12 she is givin you dont kno what that is unles she says its child benefit, because you can only claim child benefit, it goes into your bank, and it is £18.80 exactly.

Hi.everything your mum has told you is true, because i was in exactly the same position as you, i was 16/17 and still living with mum and still at school and she still had to claim for me, so therfor i couldnt claim the money, and it wasnt alot given to my mum, i then left school and my mum stopped claiming for me and then i started claiming it myself. x

    Confused-Christina-

right well because im going back to 6th form in september my mums still claiming for me and says i cant claim for my baby she has to because im still at school (not sure if thats true or not). Also just wondering how much money u get if your mum is claiming for you, my mum only gives me 40 a week and says i dont get as much because its her whos claiming =S, surely thats not true and also only gives me 12 a week for the other money when this is my first baby but again she says as shes claiming its less, she told my sister shes taking money of it and she has no right but i dont want to go accusing her if im wrong!!

    thanks in advance

tina and leo (5 months old)

oh and im 17 if that makes a difference, also im with the dad can he claim it?

    xxx
