At the moment i now have two buckets, one for wet ones, and one for dirty cos i don't want the yellow poo to stain the wet nappies as well. Now i will have double the problem. Maybe i will try wringing them out. My OH actually picks up the bucket and aims at the wash machine door and chucks it. He can do it too withoug spilling. I'm afraid i can't though.

OK. Maybe i'm just being strange but i've settled on dry-pailing for wet nappies but soaking dirty ones. When the dirty bucket has soaked and is due a wash i put on a pair of marigolds, wring each nappy out by hand and add it to the top of the wet bucket and then flush all the dirty soak water down the wc. That way i feel i get the minimum solids through the washing machine but don't need to soak each nappy every time it's used.

Obviously, i hasten to add, i keep a pair of gloves *just* for nappies - not the same pair as i wear for washing the dishes.

I used to wet pail and hated the drippy mesh bag getting it into the machine...... Iused to empty the pail in the bathroom where I keep the nappies anyway to try and get as much water off in advance of getting it downstairs but the weight of the laundry bag and the dripping really got on my pip...

I opted out of wet pailing and now dry pail and its not only cleaner to get int ot he machine but in all honesty I also find the nappy bucket smells far less than it did when it was full of stinky poo water!! And its not anywhere near as much of a bind to do the washing now.

    thanks everyone,

i'm glad to hear its not just me finding this a small issue. I like to use a wet pail.  So i will use a towel on the floor and maybe i will wear gloves when i put it in the machine so i won't avoid touching the mesh bag and maybe i can be firmer with it. my lo is 8 wks so we have everything yellow right now lol.

we're dry pailing and maybe it's because LO isn't on solids yet but they really don't smell. We use a liner in the nappies (paper or fleece) so all the poo is either put in the bin (our victorian sewers won't take flushing them without blockages) or washed out- we do wash the poo off the nappies/ fleece liners in the basin before they go in the pail so that's probably why we don't get smell. The tea tree oil in the bottom of the bucket takes care of any residual smell.

We put the nappies in the washing machine in an open mesh bag and they do fall out: washing at 60C and with a dash of napisan in there for germ control.

I know a lot of people find it much easier to dry pail their nappies, but I prefer to soak mine.  When I lift the mesh net out of the bucket, I tend to let as much water as possible drain back into the bucket, then I quickly transfer the net and nappies to the washing machine.  I also put an old towel on the floor in front of the washing machine to catch any drips. hth.

I dry pail so don't have this problems the only option is to drain as much water out as possible but your always going to get water drips no matter what you do.

    Hello all,

maybe there is a simple answer but i'm having a problem getting the dirty nappies from the bucket into the washing machine without getting the water over the floor.

I take them out of the bucket in the mesh bag. There is always going to be water dripping from the bag so how do i put it into the washing machine without a mess?

    any tips?
