Well I'm not doing much better. Still haven't picked mine up again. I got a stitch holder to put my stitches on for the first leg while I start the next one but alas, haven't even taken them off the needle! I will start again soon though, I'm sure of it.
I didnt get much sucess at the weekend.... I picked my knitting up only to make the same mistake 3 times over... Yes so I have un-picked 3 times! Still havent got passed the part I wanted to as after un-picking that many times I dont think I can carry on if I cant get it correct the next time.. I will have to get my Mother to help me get back on track... If i cant get it right.
Oh god, unpicking would really put me off! I did have to laugh at your 'deliberate' mistake though - I bet you were panicking when you saw the size of the first two you made! LOL!!!! I seemed to have reached a stage where I am finding it difficult to start up again - I've been very tired lately though and just haven't been in the mood and I'm sure I'd only make mistakes if I feel like that so I'll wait until I feel in the right frame of mind I think.
I have made mine the other way around. Made my first two 3-6months didnt check the size when making them, as once stitched up I thought Oh I hope the baby wont be that big at first. Until I noticed I made the bigger size......
I am slowly making my 3rd in size 0-3months. After a couple weeks break I picked it up two nights ago adn had to un-pick twice as I got my holes/pattern in the wrong place....I should of never left it so long as I Have to get use to the pattern once again.... I am sure it will be worth it.
My mum is making a blanket for me as I dont think I would get the time as I starting to think at the 6months stage I should be sorting out the spare room and buying things for when the baby comes.... but of course I still enjoy my knitting im between, even though I have to un-pick now again and start again and again..........
Aww cool! Well, after finishing my first two cardigans, I did two hats and then made a cardigan for my friend at work who's having a little girl. It's her last day in work tomorrow so I'll give it her then, hope she likes it!
I've now started my first pram set and then I might look for a nice blanket but I think I can manage without one if I don't get round to it. I'm also wondering whether I ought to maybe make a couple of cardigans in the 3 to 6 month size as I've only done 0 to 3 so far........
Blanket almost finished - it looks beautiful if I do say so myself.
Just need some more Sirdar snuggly in one of the colours I have used to go round the edge and its done. There don't seem to be many places to get wools and yarns in Swansea but found some on offer in Dunelm Mill yesterday so have started a new project - its not for the baby though cos I have no crochet patterns for little ones. Nedd to learn to knit!
Mum has finished first cardie, on to second one, has also done bonnet and booties from old ninteen fifties pattern!
More than welcome. Wish I could work out where the other squillions I had saved have gone! lmao! I know I always save stuff and very rarely have time to go back to it! MBx
Thanks for all of those links. Have saved them all in my favourites so I can look through them later.
There are millions on patterns online for little ones, infact once you start looking you can feel like you've seen that many your going to explode. Here are some links to various sites http://www.knitty.com this is an online knitting magazine, it changes with the seasons and has an archive of previous patterns, http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory.php lots of patterns, http://www.knittinghelp.com/ great for learner knitters and those of use that get confused by unexplained abreviations, they even have video clips too oh and some patterns and http://www.lionbrand.com click on patterns at the top of the page, you do have to create a login for this website, but all they do is send you emails with often free patterns in, but of course still encouraging you to buy stuff, it is american however and I can't always get my head around getting the right yarn weight, but saying that a few London shops and online shops are starting to stock Lion Brand yarn. Hope they help, they will definately send you onto more websites with patterns than you can possibly knit! Hugs MB x
Yeah, it's reasonable, I just meant that if you can knit then you'd be daft not to when you look at the savings that can be made. I keep meaning to find that link which I think was on this thread for knitting patterns rather than buying any more but keep forgetting so I'm going to go and have a look now! I've been off work for 3 days on m/w instructions but have had no wool and I could have made loads of stuff in this time.
Yeah thats great when you enjoy it and its relaxing and its for your own baby or grandchild, but think of all the time this person spent making the garment, I think 9 pounds for a handmade item is very reasonable! or is it any good?
I'm storming through making my coloured squares for the blanket now, but the squares I made initially are much smaller and untidy looking compaed to the ones I'm making now!
anyone found any good patterns for baby clothes on internet for knitting / crochet recently?
I know what you mean about the cost. In the wool shop that I went into the other day, there was a cardigan that someone had made and it was being sold in the shop for £9 something or other. Now admittedly that doesn't sound as expensive as £36 but when you think that a ball of wool costs about £2.50.......... and the cardigans I've made only use one or two each so still at least half of the cost - it's daft not to knit them yourself!
HI all I finished my 2nd Cardy and thought It looked alot better than my first one.... I had a few days break away in Ilfracombe adn my partner said Oh no your not taking knitting are you? Yes. I bought a ball of mint specialy to take away, I only did a little each 3 afternoons and knitting the back adn one sleeve....
My mum has now knitted 5 or 6 cardies, so I think I might press her to make me a blanket instead.
I cant get over how much babies cardies cost in teh shops I looked at one yesterday priced at £36.00 which is too much money nor did they look as nice as home made ones.....
Keep those knitting needles going......
LMAO! How funny!!!!! I bet you almost felt gutted when you realised she wasn't talking about the baby! I want to have a go at knitting a blanket but I'm worried I might get bored. Plus all the nicest ones seem to have a crocheted border around the edge and I can't crochet.
This reminded me of the funniest story. A friend of mine's mother is a great knitter and knitted me some gorgeous stuff when I had my first son -- cardigans, pram blanket etc. Really special.
So, I was at the supermarket, and the cashier is looking in the pram and complimenting wildly -- so gorgeous, beautiful etc. Well, what mother doesn't think that of her baby? I was quite enjoying the compliments. Then she asks "how did you make it?" I was in shock till she made it clear she had been talking about the blanket, not the baby.

Well done - sounds great. I don't think I will try the crocheting - I used to be able to do it as a child but I think I'll stick to the knitting. I finished the other cardigan today so now I have nothing left to do - gonna have to find something else later and get some wool and stuff tomorrow.
Have given my mum the lovely book I bought in 'the works' called organic knits for babies and mums. she is making my sister's partner's sister a cardie as we speak (dio, in italy) and will start on my one's stuff after. I have bought a load of nice wool (acrylic actually as I have an allergy to wool unfortunatley and wouldn't be able to cuddle a baby wearing it!) and cotton in John Lewis and have started to crochet a blanket. its really very simple but I wasted a few square getting the hang of making it neat so that is what I have been doing all weekend at my parents house while BF is at a wedding getting drunk!
gosh I do get irritated when you get those error messages and the thread doesn't get bumped!
Wahey!!!! Well after doing most of my cardigan within a week, I got as far as having knitted the button hole band and stopped. Only needed to sew that on and do the neckband and sew it all up and that was it finished. Anyway, have had a week off work this week and not only did I eventually finish that (and it looks lovely!), but I've also done TWO hats and started another cardigan - the one I used to do before. And it's coming up really quickly. Started yesterday afternoon and did the right front and most of the left front. I'm well impressed with myself! It's really spurred me on now. What about the rest of you ladies - any more knitting going on? Have we inspired you all?

Eventually found a nice crochet pattern for baby clothes (found loads of nice knitting patterns and loads of nice crochet patterns for adults but all the baby crochet seems to be really old fashioned or just plain amateurish)
started making it the other night (an american pattern so had to convert) and its MASSIVE! maybe their babies are bigger than ours but it looks tike it would fit a three year old (its supposed to be 0-3 moths!)
so will finish it for the practice and start again ammending the pattern.
anyone got any photos of their finished work?
