Wahey!!!! Well after doing most of my cardigan within a week, I got as far as having knitted the button hole band and stopped.  Only needed to sew that on and do the neckband and sew it all up and that was it finished.  Anyway, have had a week off work this week and not only did I eventually finish that (and it looks lovely!), but I've also done TWO hats and started another cardigan - the one I used to do before.  And it's coming up really quickly.  Started yesterday afternoon and did the right front and most of the left front.  I'm well impressed with myself!  It's really spurred me on now.  What about the rest of you ladies - any more knitting going on?  Have we inspired you all?

    FUnny you said that KathrynCJ.

Dress Making.  I was a Sewing Machinist for 10 years but moved away from the job as in this country it became a dying trade and became a Accounts Assistant for the last 10years..

So I cant wait to get my sewing Machine out later on during Maternity leave and have a go at sewing once again.... I have a old bootie adn dungeries pattern I cant wait to try and make.  So hopefully I will have a full set of clothing for when the little one is born...

YOu will be surprised sewing is an easy skill to pick up by machine or hand you can end enjoying yourself just like your knitting.........

Go on give it a go..

And apart from the fantastic saving that you're making as pointed out by SmithyBolland, it's much more satisfying to dress your baby in something that you've made yourself than something you got from Mothercare......   I wish now I could do dressmaking as well!

    Hi All

Just wanted to add I visted Mother Care at the weekend and I was pleased to find baby cardies in the shop.  SO are in very much in fashion!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I was even happier when I saw the prices:-

A plain cardy cost £8.00 and fancy one cost £12.00 each.

I am so pleased I am making mine at a cost of £1.00 for wool and £1.00 for buttons. Total cost 2.00.

For those who dont knit I did see in one or two old wool shops that they have baby cardies made up for roughly 4.00 each.

Woohoo, I think I might be getting some knitting done for me!  My sister and her partner came round as they've just got back from their hols and his mum knits.  My sister has taken the new pattern book that I bought and is going to ask his mum if she'll do me some of the things I want.  I marked two pram sets, a cardigan, a sleeping bag thing and a pram blanket.  So I'm hoping I might get some if not all of them!  Apparently she knits things and takes them to charity shops as none of her family want stuff knitted these days so I'm hoping she'll love the chance to actually knit for someone!  Yay!!!!!!!

lol Lillylala, I think you've told your mum to deliberately take her time hehe!!!!  I still have to finish sewing my cardigan together and do the neckband but not sure when I'll get round to it, so little left to do, I should really get my act together now!

    HI All

Well I finished my first cardy, the duckie buttons finished it off nicely.  I did have a bit of a panic with the botton borders as they looked so much shorter than the cardy but with a bit of a stretch they stitched in nicely in the end.

My mum made me a lovely fancy stitched M. Jacket and Bootties puts mine to shame.

After a few days break I have started to cast on ready for my next project, this time I will make sure the borders are a bit longer... He he....

I cant wait to see my Mums nxt project completed as its a cute bobble's white cardy....

I am becoming an addict to knitting.....

For all of those who can Crochet, I really really admire you as I tried several times years ago to learn by various people and I just couldnt get the hang of it.......... I will stick to my knitting...

Well, I've almost finished my first cardigan.  Was going really well until I got to the button/buttonhole band part and now I think I've messed it up a little but never mind.  It's not that bad.  And I got a booklet with lots of baby stuff in so I've got my next projects lined up.  One of which is a blanket but sadly most of the nicest blankets involve crocheting round the edge when it's made up and I have absolutely no idea how to do this......... might be asking for your advice then!

Am rubbish at knitting, but your thread has encouraged me to try crochet again.  Am going to have to use acrylic too or cotton - I can't wear wool so chances are lo can't either, and I am allergic to the firbres when you knit / crochet with wool!

might be a bit limited in what I can make: bonnets and blankets are the only things I know how to do, but maybe will look on internet for some ideas after this.

My SIL has just passed on a few hand knitted bits she never used for her 2. On opening the bag I understand why, there's a few pair of booties. All the same pattern. I think there for a horse rather than a baby and the matching bonnet will fit a football.

I think I will pull them out & start again.

I love knitting and all my babies have had knitted stuff, thanks to me and my Mum and in fact the odd relative, they actually have too much now.  Third due in Nov and when I find out the sex will knit something new and have heard my Mum already has a small stash going!  Going to be drowning in the stuff! LOL  Everywhere I've gone, the kids have been admired for the knitted bits and bobs and I love it all.  I have to say though that I don't spend that much on the wool I use, especially not when they are getting to 1year plus, mainly because they don't wear it long enough and t'other half has a recation to 'wool' so it's my excuse for using acrylic with the kids!   Here's hoping you all get lots of knitted bits.  Hugs MBxx

Ooohhh, go on Lillylala, hope you decided to give it a go!  I finished the back of the cardigan today and have started the left front bit.  I'm hoping that I'll be all finished by this time next week.  And then I might have a look for a different pattern (or if my sister is back off holiday I'll get my other pattern off her as that's the one I really want) and do something else.  I might even have a go at something with a slight pattern in it soon rather than just the stocking stitch that this one is!

Oh I'm so tempted but so crap I need constant supervision when knitting. I'll think about it over night & maybe go for it tomorrow if I feel brave enough lol!

And the little bit I've done so far is lovely if I do say so myself.  Took it to work where they were all surprised how neat it looked - charming!  What a great idea about looking in charity shops for needles though, might do that tomorrow - unless my sister finds any and brings them round of course.  She has just this second phoned me to say she's found the knitting pattern that I really wanted though so I'm well happy because it's perfect for newborn babies and babies up to a few months and it's soooo easy to make too.  And it's double knit wool I think so grows more quickly.  The one I'm currently doing is 4 ply (I'm sure my mum wouldn't use 4 ply!).  Come on everyone, get yer needles and wool going!

I am so glad I asked your views on knitting.  It has taken me nearly 3weeks but I have nearly finished my first white moss stitch cardy.  I am keen to get home today to press, stitch it up and knit the remainder neck band in.  I have seen some cute Duck buttons to finish it off with.

Trouble is I need to go to the shop lunch times so no doubt I will be looking at more wool and patterns etc.

I managed to get my wool in a ex factory shop 100grams baby DK for only £1 and I only needed the one ball.  If any one is thinking of starting knitting it may pay to look in your local charity shop for old knitting needles and patterns.  As my local knitting shops still seem to have the old patterns from the 70's and 80's any way.

Lets bring back knitting girls and keep me posted how your knitting projects are coming along.  I havent had so much fun, in years!

Right ladies, it's all your fault cos I've only gone and done it!  I went out at lunchtime and got some wool and a pattern and the knitting needles I need.  And I'm about to cast on just as soon as I've typed this message.  LOL!!!!!  It ended up costing me more than buying a cardigan but that's because I had to buy the needles - once I have all of those again then it would only have cost me about £4 and it's beautifully soft wool (and more expensive than it should have been cos I got it from Beatties (aka House of Fraser) as the wool shop wasn't open today!).  So, I'll let you know how it's going at some point soon.  I think you should all knit too and then we could all help each other out when we (inevitably) get stuck! Hehe!!!!
