I got a 1:3 result on a nuchal test, but I looked at it like this it only has to be the 1 doesnt it?  so might as well be 1:400.  I think the result for me was a result of my age (41) and decided that no matter what the result I wasnt going to do anything about it anyway.

My friend had the same results with her 1st - she didn't have an amnio as she had bee TTC for years, but had a full scan to check for any organ abnormalities etc and all was fine.  She is due in 3 weeks and is still feeling optimistic that she has an 80% chnace of having a child without downs syndrome and even if the child does have downs syndrome I know many Downs syndroe Children and they are happy children wilth a lot to live for.

I think you very mush so have to have a philsophy that you just have to deal with what life gives you.

I hpe your results are the ones you are hoping for.

    Donna

When I was expecting my 2 year old, my odds of ds were higher than a miscarriage so did not have cvs or amnio. Had a very reassuring midwife who made me see that 1:4 meant that I had a greater chance of a child with no disability! Think positive. Good luck. x

Well, had my CVS done this morning and all went well there. Wasn't painful - just felt a bit wierd. So now we just have to wait. Results back on Thursday. If everything is ok, then we have to have extended cardio tests (as apparantly this can be something else indicated by a larger NT measurement). So there's still a way to go yet - but we are keeping positive and busy!

Let us now how you get on hun.  I am having my blood test a week on Tuesday, and NT scan on the 27th.  I am 37 so decided to have the tests done privately.  I don't know why I feel worried about it this time, as it didn't even figure in my thoughts with my ds (3 next month).

    Take care

Thanks so much everyone - lot of things I really needed to hear at the moment. Am doing my best not to worry and am keeping busy - my house has never been so clean!

Tamarah, Im 13 weeks and a few days. The hospital told me that was fine to have a CVS now. On the information sheet I have been given it says a CVS is normally done between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy, so I will just about make it. I had the bloods taken the day before the scan and the hospital rushed them through due to the result of the NT.

I mean how many weeks pregnant? I was told that CVS can only be done up to 13 weeks, which means that there isn't much chance to get back the results of the blood test first if you do it at 12 weeks. Finding the dates a bit confusing.

I was pregnant last year with my daughter who is almost 14 months and i had a 1 in 4 chance of a downs syndrome baby but she is absoloutely fine. I was 37 and very worried you and it was my friend who reassured me that the results of the test are not 100% when she was offered the amnio test for her first baby after a high risk afgar score. she refused it and her son is now 12 years old and no signs of downs at all. I agree with the lady who posted and said "what will be will be" and as i am pregnant again i refused to have the test at all because however my baby is i will love and care for her to my best ability and am aware that there is support out there if i need it. I didnt want to have the amnio in case of the risk of miscarriage and i am happy and sure that my baby will be as healthy as all my other babies. I hope i have helped to reassure you that these tests are not always as accurate as we think they are. take care and good luck xx vikki xx

I am 35  my biological fathers sister has downs never met her and haven't seen him since i was 4 so i had the blood test and my result was 1:520    i know this may sound harsh and it's only my opinion but at the end of the day the numbers don't mean a thing as you could have result of 1:1,000,000 and your baby could be the 1 that has downs   i'm a believer in what will be will be   but i also think that if you are informed and you know beforehand then you are prepared  unlike honey from eastenders

good luck with everything and i hope it all works out for you

Hi, with my ds two years ago (I was 36) the bloods and nuchal fold scan came back with a 1:4 chance of downs.  We went for the CVS, which came back negative for Downs or the other syndromes they test for.  DS was born in June 06 and is perfectly normal.  This time round was 1:900, so thankfully don't have that worry.  Good luck hon and try not to worry, it doesn't mean definately downs.

    baban,

i am not there yet re screening as I am having my dating scan next week.

But try no to worry too much, think of it as you will have a 4 out of 5 or 80% chance of a non risk baby. Wait until you get the results, easy to do I know but stressing won't do little one any good. And it may be all worry for nothing.

Thinking about you and will say a little prayer all goes well with the tests.

    Joanne

Hi all, had my scan on Thursday and the blood results back yesterday and they showed NT at 3.6 and blood results put me at 1 in 5 risk of Down’s. Im 38 years old and have a healthy 2 year old little boy. This has completely thrown me! Am booked in for a CVS test on Monday with the results back next Thursday (apparantly they fast track them at our hospital when the risk is so high). Has anyone been given any similar odds and what have been the results?
