hi, i am from 4-6months, but i had spd with both my pregnancies, with the second one it was so bad i could not work from 14weeks and was on crutches and morphine till i was induced,

i had her with pethedine but then had a retained placenta and had no choice but to have a spinal even with the severe spd i had no bad effects after it wore off and they had moved my legs around in all sorts of ways,

so i would say that if you need one and they have no problem with it, then have one,

but after having one myself i would never have another unless it was very much needed,

hth and goodluck with the birth xx

I had an early epidural with my last pregnancy cos of SPD (my first pregnancy I didnt have SPD) and was just told by consultant that they would keep it topped up for up to a few days for the pain (something I had been advised against by research but consultant was determined) in the end the epidural didnt work so that all went up in smoke. I was advised to have a water birth but there was no way I could have climbed into the pool so it depends how sever it is also my hospital dont allow it is you have and form of intervention so as I was induced at 37wks that also ruled me out for a water birth. TBH it depends on what area you live in what the advice is and also how sever your SPD is what the best course of action is as tiger says she copes very well with TENS but even with that there is no way I could so its a little annoying trying to get good info. Good luck with your pregnancy and labour however you decide to go Linds 27+6 xxx

They wouldn't let me have one in cheltenham royal. Different hospitals have different policies so its worth checking. Not allowed a water birth in cheltenham either with spd.

Try tens as you can have that on from 37w of pg. I had tens with both my last labours both i had spd in. Helped a lot. BUT tens will only work well for you if you put it on early, giving it plenty of time to build up.

I am 23 weeks with my first pregancy and have been signed off work with SPD. I am thinking ahead to the delivery and obviously not knowing exactly how much pain to expect or what I'll be able to cope with,  I have been thinking about an epidural as a possible last option. However there has been some negativity around women with SPD having epidurals because they can't feel their joint pain.

Has anybody here with SPD had an epidural and how was it for you?

    Thanks.
