Hiya sorry for gatecrashing but just saw this thread. I found out I had group b strep with my daughter.  I wasnt tested for it as the UK dont do this as routine but luckily my mw saw a tiny spec of blood in my urine a week before I was due and sent a sample off for testing. It came back positive so when I went into labour I was hooked up to an antibiotic drip as soon as I got to the hospital. I was allowed to go home with my baby next day - (although I have since heard they should keep you in longer to monior the baby).  The test has to be carried out quite late in pregnancy - from 35-37wks.

I was under the impression that a test for this done by gp is only 1 in 4 people accurate. There is a company in London I think who send out a home test which is v reputable and much much more accurate....i'd google it.

Hi there, my was told i had group b strep in my first pregnancy approx 8 years ago and unfortunaly i lost my baby boy after 9 days of giving birth, at that time i had never heard about it and thought i was a allen cause i could not understand why or how i got it!  Down the years i have wondered and was supprised to see how common it was and have just found out i am 5 weeks pregnant and now very anxious to find out if i still have it, so having the swab test done tmw at my doctors.  Does anyone know if it's too early to have the test now?
