Hiya i'm currently taking low dose aspirin as i had pre eclampsia with my 1st and apparently aspirin reduces it by 10% in certain cases.

my consultant advised that i should take it up until 36 weeks.

    hope this helps. x

thanks a lot ladies, you're replies are really helpful.

Saw a registrar instead of my consultant last week and he knew nothing at all - even said I didn't really need to be under a consultant and couldn't grasp why I was taking aspirin!

Think I'll have to check with my consultant when she comes back to work - I'm having a scan at 20 weeks but haven't been offered any more after that.

Hi, i was on low dose aspirin and stopped at 36 weeks - had c-sec at 37 weeks ( altho was planned for 38 weeks!), i have factor V leiden which caused my placenta to clot and my 2nd son had severe IUGR and was emergency c-sec at 38 weeks, they didnt know i had factor V then, but my placenta had a quarter clotted and they ran blood tests, so i was on clexane injections and aspirin after that for next pg.  i also had regular growth and dopplar scans, are you having these too?  should be 24, 28, 32, 34, 36 and 38 weeks  hope that helps! x

Hi I've been on aspirin before I conceived with this baby but wasn't with my first.  I had two m/c's after my little boy and was told to take asprin till 36 weeks my cosultant told me that by this timeif any clots were to form the placenta is big enough to deal with them and it wouldn't cause any problems.

    Hope this helps

I only stopped taking aspirin a day before my c-section and was absolutely fine. As it was my 5th baby they warned me I may lose a lot of blood anyway, but the blood loss was recorded as minimal.

    Hi

I was put on low dose aspirin for this pregnancy as I'd had 3 previous early miscarriages. I had all the tests done which came back negative so they assumed it maybe a problem with implantation and recommended aspirin. I was told by my consultant to take it until 36 weeks. They don't like you taking it in the last few weeks as they don't want your blood to be too thin when you come to give birth apparantly. I'm nearly 38 weeks and haven't taken it since 36 weeks and all seems fine.

Just double check though with your consultant in case your situation is different to mine.

Hope this helps & good luck with your pregnancy

ooh funny you should ask but saw my consultant on tuesday and I am 38 weeks today and I asked him about the asprin he said to carry on with it until I go into labour, but I do remember reading they take you off a couple of weeks before your due so your blood wont be to thin especially if you have an op it get so confusing  I am putting my trust in his wisdom as I am no consultant

    I have a questionLisaTTierney

Hiya ladies. I am almost 17 weeks and have been on 75mg aspirin since I lost my baby last October - my consultant has done tests for lupus, antiphos etc which have all come back negative, but my placenta following the m/c was clotted up like mad so she put me on the aspirin

Anyway, my question is how long have you guys been told to take the aspirin for. I mean, I don't want to stop at 36 weeks and then clots to form and kill the baby, but I also don't paticularly want to bleed to death on the operating table!

Have asked midwife and she doesn't really know and my consultant is off at the moment.

    Thanks

    Lisa
