Hello all - I did't realise there was two types.
Mine went in under general anaesthetic at 12 weeks pregnant. (2 days after my first appointment with my consultanat - which was a week after I rang the midwife and told her I was pregnant again - consultant was on holiday for a week so I thought it was pretty quick moving - I got the feeling the consultant would have put one in before I was pregnant).
All through pregnancy consultant has said the stitch would be difficult to get out while pregnant so I would be having a c-section at 38 weeks. Then last time he asked if I wanted it out - said I could have it out at 38 weeks or have a c-section at 39 - I was a bit shocked. I have to decided in 3 weeks time. I wasn't expecting it and don't know how it will be taken out - I am still wondering if he got confused because of the extreeme heat. lol.
I told my midwife and she seemed a bit shocked too. When the stitch when in she asked when it was coming out: I told her how they put it in high up and she said oh - so your having a c-section then. So when I said I'd been told to decided whether to havet the stitch out or not she was shocked (she said have a section too) I am worried because I was soare for a few weeks after it went in (with the cutting to the vagina) an I just think 'how will it cope givining birth so soon' if they don't take the stitch out til 38 weeks.
On the otherhand I find the maternity wards difficult (probably because of the sad memories) and I know they are community wards and everyone has to get up and que for breakfast etc - I am worried about leaving my baby when I go for a shower etc. So having a vaginal birth and going home quickly is very appealing. (although with my spd I would prefer a water birth a the midwife unit - I don't think I'm high risk anymore - not now I'mn 32+3 with a big big baby - my consultant said even if she comes before 35 weeks there's a good chance she won't need special care as she is 'well grown').
But because I am lupus anti-coag too I think they will want me in hospital. I was kept in last time (which was horrid) due to blood loss, and so I think they may be concerned about this. - If they'd stop thinning my blood down with daily injections and asprin there's no way I'd bleed too much lol.
Sorry for such a long post - I think it is helping me to clear my thoughts a bit as I'm really jumbled up at the moment. Thanks to you ladies who have read this far and I'm so glad I ran accross this thread - you all seem lovely.
Hubby has borrowed a wheelchair and is taking me out for the day
so pleased as I only go to hospital lately. We are going to a zoological park with our walkers crisps voucher lol. Should be great. see you all later and have a restful day. x x x

hi everyone thank you for your replys to my question. i lost a baby at 23 wks and had my daughter at 26wks so thats why they put the stitch in. they will take my stitch out at 34-37wks and then do a c section coz im not allowed to give birth naturally. they didnt cut my vagina away from my cervix to put in the stitch and they put it in at 14wks so it was only done a week ago. im kind of reasurred that it will work and kep my baby in there till 38wks but i will be more than happy if my consultant gets me to 32wks coz i cant handle looking after another disabled child. i am soooo glad that you all are doing great at the moment and it gives me hope x

Hi Megulemoo
I am not 100% certain but i think you have had a slight;y different sticth to me, did you have it put in before conception or very early. I know they do two types, one which is high like yours which is meant to be more succesful and one lower. My vagina wasn't cut to insert the stitch, infact the consultant said it could be done wihout pain relief as the cervix does not have pain receptors but tey use a spinal block to reassue the mother.
However, i do know if they are succesful you can opt for an elective c-section and keep the sticth in. I am not going for this option simply because i have one child, this will make two and i do not fancy a third!!!
On saying that if i did, i think i would go with the c-section, you know then that this stitch worked, there will be less risk of nfection and you don't have to go thrugh with the stitch op again.
Good luck in whatever you choose, Kate xxx

Hi Claire
I had a check up two weeks later however that was also for my 20 weeks scan as i was 19 weeks when i had the stitch, further on than you. They did see me two weeks after that also but it will be five weeks to my next appointment. I shouldn't really worry, my check ups were basically 'any pain, discharge or bleeding?' Ok let us know if it changes.
My community mw is awful too, she always forgets something ie wee, blood pressure, weight. I think she thinks because i am under a consultant she doesn't need to wory about me.
I know i cannot believe i am 27 weeks myself, but don't worry you will soon be catching me up, i pray for Wednesdays each week, however i has my dd at 29 weeks so i think major panic mode will be coming up soon!!
Take care, Kate xx

Hello to you all,
I usually post in DIA - but I came across this thread.
I had a stich at 12 weeks, I am now 32+1 - I am convinced this is thanks to the stich. Had a good pregnancy so far (appart from pain, spd etc - but good as in successful at keeping baby in).
She's growing well - is about 5 and a half pounds now acording to scans and measurement.
Just going through the dilema of wether to have the stitch out or leave it in and have a c-section - then it's there if we 'go again' for baby number 2.
Any one else considered this?
Only thing is I know my vagina was cut away from my cervix so the stitch could go in 'high up' - and then it was sown back together with disolving stitches that fell out a week or 2 later. This makes me wonder how they will get the stitch out - I must remember to ask this (keep forgetting). I am worrying that they will cut the vagina away again - and then expect me to deliver through it the next week!
Anyone know anything about this?

Forgot to add that I had my 16 check up with the midwife last wednesday, and she didn't even take a water sample or ask any questions or anything. I feel a bit 'forgotten about' to tell you the truth, especially as I was told that I would closely monitored and things. Did you have a check up after the little operation?

Hi Kate! Glad to hear that you are fine also. I'm sooo jealous that you are nearly 28 weeks - I just wish that I was in the same boat as you! No,I haven't had any check-up as yet. Funny enough, I was thinking about it a little while ago. The stitch has been in for nearly three weeks now, and am not due back at hospital for another two and abit weeks, and that's for the 20 week scan. Not sure whether to phone hospital tomorrow and ask I I should go in for a check up, 'just in case'. What do you think?

Hi Claire - Glad to hear you are both doing ok. Have you been back for a check up or anything yet?
Hi Tricia - I too have had a stitch, mine at 19 weeks and i shall be 27 weeks on Wednesday. Touch wood so far so good, a little paranoid but apart from that fine.
I am back next week for a scan and chack at 28 weeks, i cannot believe how time is flying by!!
Take care Kate xxx

HI! I'm fine thanks, and so is baby (so far so good!). I think that I am beginning to feel a few movements now and again, and that is always very reassuring! I don't really want to ask, so please don't worry if you don't want to answer this question, but what was your reason for having the stitch put in? I had two losses, one at 23 weeks and the other at 21 weeks, so am just hoping that this stitch will keep the little one in a wee bit longer! I'm currently being signed off work by the GP, and don't really anticipate going back until my maternity leave begins inOctober, and luckily work is really supportive of this. Are you taking it easy? I'm trying to! As i said, I'm not working, not driving (dh and mother are like taxis!), not picking up anything too heavy and not walking very much. I'm going to be HUGE!!!!!!!lol!

Hi! I'm claire and I had a stitch put in on 29th May, so not long before you. I was 14+2 when it went in and am now nearly 17 weeks, and counting! How are you feeling by the way? How far pregnant are you? There are a few of us on here who have had a cervical stitch xx

hi there. my name is tricia and im new to the site.was just wandering if any one on here has had a stitch around their cervix. mine went in on tuesday the 10th of june. has anyone out there got any advise

Oh - thought I was a bit me me just so If I say how my check-ups have been then it might help others (sorry must be having a selfish moment).
I have had scans 4 weekly - mostly for reassurance, last time I lost at 22 weeks, my sister delivered (healthy) at 27 weeks and my aunt lost three - got a stitch and had big boys. So my loss and family history played a big part in me getting a stitch.
I have a high stitch and it can be checked by a normal tummy scan. To start with it was very sensitive down there - everyone was amazed I could feel baby from 12 weeks - but this was just because I had had the stitch as I felt movments againt my cirvix only for about 6 or 8 weeks.
My midwife comes between 4 weekly scans - so I see someone every 2 weeks: she is great. but it's all routines - wee, bp, baby's heart etc.
My scans are done by my consultant not a sonographer, so he checks things - including the stitch - regularly. This also means I only had to sit in clinic once - for the first appointment at 12 weeks - and I cried because of the memories so it I'm glad I haven't been back. I am also scanned in a little room (or oven now lol) so that's different too. It has all helped ease the pain and worry and they staff have been great whenever I've got upset.
I only got weighed once (for the growth chart to be printed at 12 weeks). I haven't had to get my legs open since theatre - so no prodding and poking 'down there'
My advice is don't worry - it's noot good for you. once the stitch goes in sit back and relax as much as possible. You've done the big bit and be confident that you have done everything you can within your power to keep your baby safe. I know it's easy to say don't worry and hard to do - BUT cling to the feeling you have DONE EVERYTHING YOU CAN - it brings peace and that is what we need - it's no good getting all sewn up and then worrying our babies out early

Good luck girls x x x x x
