    hi,

My little boy was born at 37 weeks weighed 6lb 8oz, the OC does not cause low birth weight or make the baby stop growing.  I think thats what the pre-eclampsia does, this stops the placenta working properly, therefore resulting in low birth weight.  I think you should take this pregnancy one day at a time and please don't worry about complications, you may have none at all, I am due in 3 weeks and although my OC is coming back it does not appear to be as bad as last time.  Chin up lady and try not to worry.  If you need any reasurrance just drop us a line on here. xxx

    Hello,

I had OC with my first pregnancy but also got pre - eclampsia.

I am now 15 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child & have been told by my consultant to get ready for another tough run (as I have a new husband & risk of pre eclampsia is increased again). Did anyone suffer from the two problems together in there 2nd pregnancy???. I had my last daughter at 36+5 but she had stopped growing before this. Did anyone else's baby have a low birth weight due to the OC??

    Thank you

    Hello girls,

I had oc with my ds back in 2006 came on at 36+4, I am expecting my second in 3 weeks and sure enough at 36+4weeks my blood results for the lfts have began to rise.  My consultant seems to think that its not such a dramatic rise this time, however my hands are starting to itch so I know that it will be just as bad again, will have my bloods done again on wednesday 9th July, but i have a feeling things may progress before then.  I was induced at 37 weeks last time and have a good delivery (although very painfull!!).  Also getting alot of period type pain, it woke me up last night, could this mean labour may not be far away???

    Hiya,

I was diagnosed with OC at my 28 week blood test in Birmingham. They will get you in for weekly blood tests and scans but cheer yourself by thinking that you will get to see your little one grow, suck it's thumb etc... every single week and most women don't get to see theirs again for ages after the 20 week scan!

They will probably give you Ursodeoxycholic acid tablets too. These haven't been proven in this country yet, but i think most hospitals give them to help control bile levels. They have definitely helped with mine and when i have missed a few tablets, i definitely find that my itching gets a lot worse. The cool bath idea is a good one!

I am now 36 weeks + 5, and although i am taking my tablets, i have started to find that i am itching more. I have been booked in for an induction on the 10th July  (38 weeks +1) but if the itching is anything to go by, i am not sure that my bile levels will remain low for another week and a half.

If you want any more info, please ask.

    Hiya

I had OC with my last pregnancy which was 10 years ago. It also seems to be coming back with a vengeance this time, as I'm only 8 weeks and already struggling.

Where abouts in the country are you? Because the very best place for OC care is undoubtedly Nottingham QMC.

I've posted loooaaads about it on Due In January. If you want me to try and find them to email some info to you, just PM me. I'll be happy to help. I know that even 10 years further along, still very little is known about the condition.

I live in Leicestershire now and I'm going back to QMC for my antenatal care this time too, as I had a good relationship with the professor and his team who cared for me last time.

If i don't hear from you again, best of luck. I'm only lurking in here at the moment, as I've not officially ben diagnosed with OC, but I'm 99% sure I'll be back at some point in the future.

    B xx

hi thanks for all the replies,

i went to the hospital yesterday and they have prescribed me with vitiamin k and and another tablet to counter act the bile acid's they cant work out why i have it with this pregnancy but havent had it with the other two and to be honest i dont think im at a hospital where alot is known about it they are keeping a very close eye on me and starting monitoring every week which is helping knowing that im not just getting fobbed off and if i havent gone into labour with-in the next 5  weeks they will induce but hopefully it wont come to that and daniel will decide to come on his own.

i think the thing whats getting to me more than anything else is that im constantly worried so im constantly checking that he's still moving about then when he stop's i think every bad thought just run's through my head then im realising that he's just sleeping hence the reason im up at 4oclock in the morning but hopefully the more i can find out about it the more i will relax.

again thanks for all the help and i will keep you all posted on how things are going.

Hi there,i had oc wth my 2nd and 3rd pregnancy,ds 3,dd11weeks.the first time i got it was about 36 weeks into my pregnancy was itching constantly from head to toe so much so i couldnt sleep it really stressed me out didnt know what it was at the time anyway got so stressed went to the doctors who refered me to hosp as i had a rash aswell. At  37 weeks bloods were taken diagnosed with oc and induced the very next day.2nd time i got it around 30 weeks was being monitored really closely at hosp blood tests every week to start anyway the itching gradually got worse and worse blood results were rising started being monitored every 2 days at hosp having  blood tests and scans and  by 36 weeks bile acids and lfts were sky high went for another scan and was induced that day,i have researched oc alot and if u want to speak pm anytime dont want to worry u with my story as some people with oc have no symptoms at all,u should be monitored alot more closely at the hosp though which is very reassuring and good thing is with more scans u get to see yor baby more take care x

    hi

I had o.c with my 2nd and 3rd pregnacy { children now 8 and 7}. I t was really bad with my 8 year old and by the time I had her  I was yellow tinged very itchy etc.  At the time  queen charlottes was doing a research prog. which we became part of - it may be wortth looking on their web site.  I was monitored very carefully by the hospital with loads of blood tests and extra scans and induced 2 weeks early with both of them and as you can see they were both fine and nearly as soon as they were born I went back to normal.  this preg. I am having reg blood tests to keep an eye on levels but so far so good. I know treatments have prob. changed now and hospitals are very good in monitoring O.C.  things that helped me was regular cool baths, hot makes it more itchy, Wearing very little clothes in the evening! and getting a babies hair brush to itch my feet with.

    Hope this helps
