    Hi Sali,

Hows the swimming and rocking going?

It is a shame that they said no to a drip at home. I don't see why that would be difficult for the mw to do.

hi, i'll try the swimming and the rocking and hope for the best keep your fingers crossed for me.

does everyone who takes insulin have to have the glucose and insulin drip while in labour.

hi you are really lucky i wanted a home birth with my 5th baby but because i have had gestational diabetes in all my pregnancies and had to take insulin the consultant said no as i needed a insulin drip and glucose drip up whilst i was in labour and that wasnt possible at home so all of my children have had to be born in hospital..

    Hi Sali,

I'm sure it doesn't have to be the way they say. Breech babies have and can be born naturally though, i know they don't promote it any more or even deal with it, they just say c section straight off.  I would do everything for a natural birth. The baby could turn even up to when you are in labour so its not a definate until that time. Can you not insist on a natural birth. If you had an independent mw they would support you. You already know the obstetricians opinions about GD then, so you will know what a struggle it has been for me to stick to my hb plans. I hope your baby turns. go swimming and do handstands in the water lol.

i hope you get the hb you want i too have gd and use insulin the baby is breech and have been told i'll have to have c section if he doesnt turn. after five normal births and weights ranging from 6.10-10lb i feel a bit gutted that my last baby will possibly be a c section especially as i also have very few stretch marks , vane i know , but i feel a bit of a failure.

    Hi all.

Thought i'd share with you about my gestational diabetes.

    heres my update.

went for another growth scan yesterday. well the scan showed a 7lbs 7oz baby, still a girl at 37 wks +1.  she is now 3/5 engaged. her abdominal circumference is in normal range 90th centile. they couldn't do head circumference cos my bladder was empty.

the obstetrician came in and pointed out that we still differed in opinion and asked if i wanted to see the paediatrician which i said yes to. this strange man came in and gave me guidelines of what to do about monitoring babies insulin levels for the first 24 hours after birth. its a pin p*** in the heel 4 hours after birth, if its too low after a feed then i take her in to the hospital. they normally do this monitoring in the hospital but they are telling me how to cos i insist on being at home. he did say that the baby needs to be taken care of after...........meaning that basically they can't stop us having the baby at home but if we didn't care for baby after birth then baby has rights. that was what he was implying so dp thought.  see cos baby doesnt have rights until born do they.  as if we are being irresponsible for having a home birth.

the diabetic team said my sugar is fine and i don't need to monitor so much now cos it peaked at 36 weeks.
the obdtetrician made an appointment for me in 3 wks, a day over my due date to talk about induction.  unbelievable they are, they just won't leave alone. i've made it but we''ll see i'm not planning on them interferiing.
so thats me, now i wait and see the mw next week. so things are still on track for hb . i just hope now that she doesn't grow too big and that i have a wonderful home birth and can show them that i'm not abnormal cos they diagnosed me gestational diabetes and birth can go ok without all the risks happening that they say will. at this rate baby will be 8lbs 11oz to 9lbs at 40 wkks. i have done 9lbs 4oz before.
