Igot pre eclampsia at 25 weeks with Theo and he was born at 27 weeks. I have just found out i am pregnant again around 12 weeks i think. From what i remember being told, i have a 1 in 4 chance of it happening again, i am a diabetic so my risks are slightly higher. But that is only if the baby is with the same dad and relatively close together. But he did advise me not to try again til Theo was 6 months. I wasn't trying, i am on the depo injection in fact, but it didn't work and Theodore was 5 and a half months i reckon. Apparently if you have baby with a different father its just like your first preg again. Saying that though i have found differnt doctors have different opinions of thing so i am trying to be optimistic x

I had pre-eclampsia with my first  and was induced at 37 weeks. Second pregnancy was classed high risk so had a consultant who I saw monthly and bp checked twice a week from 30 weeks. At 37 weeks bp went sky high and had +++ protein so was induced again.

I had PE with Toby, went into hospital at 32 weeks and gave birth at 35 weeks.  I was really worried about getting it again as this pregnancy was not planned, Toby is only 8 and a half months and we haven't had any chance really to 'get over' what happened.  I saw my Midwife for my booking appt and asked what I should be doing about the risk, but she told me not to worry, that I probably wouldn't get it this time, so not to think about it.  Easier said than done!  Had a look on the internet and found a really good site - www.pesupport.friendhood/net  I wrote and asked for advice and they were really helpful.  There is protocol that should be followed if you've had PE before and you are classed as 'high risk', so should get consultant led care.  I contacted my Consultant direct and she said that I should definately be taking a low dose aspirin daily as, depending on the situation you had with your PE before, this can help reduce risk.  I have an appt with her next week to discuss a care plan for the rest of my pregnancy.  Good luck with everything - make sure you get listened to!

I had it with 1st, BP high from 26 weeks and was induced at 32 weeks.  Now 30 weeks preg with 2nd.  Was sent to see consultant at hosp who prescribed Asprin which supposedly helps with BP.  All is fine so far and consultant said last week that as long as I see midwife (or have BP checked) each week then they hope not to see me again!  I am so happy.  This pregnancy is so different from my last I feel great and dh says I look healthier now than for a long time!

I was also told as previous poster that my chances this time were same as first time around which I think is about 8%.

I had pre-eclampsia during my 1st pregnancy which started at 32 weeks and I was induced at 39 but my 2nd was fine.  But I got it again towards the end of my 3rd pregnancy & it was worst.  I had 4+ protein & I was given beta blockers for the BP but they didn't work as they hoped, so I was induced at 38+3.

Agree with Physio, just because you had it the first time does not mean you have a higher chance of getting it again.

My sister recently delivered her baby girl at 33 weeks due to severe pre-eclampsia.  Both are well, but she was told the chances of it happening again in 2nd pregnancy is the same for someone who had it in their 1st as it is for everybody expecting their 1st.  This is apparantly a relatively low risk. Hope that helps-if it even makes sense!

Unfortunately you now have a risk factor for getting PE -that's having had it once before.  It is more common in 1st pregnancies.  I was told my chances of getting it again were 30-40%.  It's not normally as bad 2nd time around.  Cx
