hello ladies, i personally have no experience, but last year my mother had an emergancy c section to deliver her twins, one of which had edwards syndrome.(1

she had been offered the test and declined as she said she personally would never abort a baby and shes glad she didn’t, she would have risked a miscarriage and could have not only lost Matthew, but would have lost his brother as well.

I don’t know what to tell you, my brother lived for 5 days and we count ourselves as very lucky that he got that long, but some children can live longer. Knowing may make you make hard decisions, and as hard as it would be you may get to see that child and love it even if it is only for a few days, honestly i don’t know what i would do, because in many ways thats alot harder.

I feel so sorry for you ladies, i really do and i hope to god it all works out for you.

Thanks for the advice. I lost my baby at 22 weeks. It was a complete shock. It was picked up at my 20 week scan and confirmed by an amnio.

I'm unsure what to do. I would like to no as soon as possible if all is well this time, but i'm frightened of the risk of m/c if i opt for cvs.

My other option is to wait and have an amnio which i believe has a slighter risk of m/c.

    Good luck with your results.

I had cvs at 12 weeks due to my age (45). It carries slightly higher risk than amnio but that is largely dependent on the hospital you go to.  I was at LGI and couldn't have wished for better care.  CVS is like amnio, the consultant does a careful scan to see position of baby, you have a local anasthetic in tummy and then a long needle is inserted.  You can see everything on the screen.  There is quite a lot of pushing and wiggling of the needle but it is not too uncomfy, the chorionic cells are collected and then the needle is withdrawn.  The consultant monitors the baby for a good few minutes afterwards to make sure everything looked fine.  I had no pain or bleeding afterwards and went to work as normal the next day. My first set of results were phoned to me by teh consultant at 3.00 the next afternoon and the full set arrived in teh post about 10 days later. My baby showed no chromosomal abnormalities and i am now 35+4 weeks pregnant and can't wait to meet baby......... PM me if you want any other details.  A hard decision to make but I know we made the right one as at least we would have been prepared for whatever was coming our way.

Not really hon. Think i've heard it can be done earlier than amnio and before the double/triple blood test. Not sure if it is as accurate as amnio and think there may be a higher risk of mc.....but again i'm not sure I'm sat waiting for my amnio results. Was told they'd be back yesterday or today. Did your baby reach gestation or did u mc? My results are coming back for pateau and Edwards too...have been reading quite a lot about it all.

I lost my baby in April 08. He has Patau's Syndrome.

I'm now 11weeks pregnant and been offered a cvs at 12 weeks. Does anyone have any experiences of this?
