My dd has used crayons since around 12/13 months. She used to just draw lightly on the paper but now really scribbles all over the page.
I used to sit with her and watch her and help her draw. She used to put the crayons to her mouth but I'd put my hand between her mouth and the crayon and say 'Not in your mouth'. Now I can be on the other side of the room, see her put the crayon to her mouth and just shake my head and she moves the crayon back onto the paper.
It took about a month to teach her to not chew crayons.
She also uses small triangle shape pencils from Tesco (which are great on a table top as they don't roll off the edge!) We also got her Crayola 1st felt tip pens - which I do stay next to her when she has those!!
Hi, I just bought my son who is 15mths his first felttip pens!
From Mothercare, first ones I have found suitable for 1 year +. They wipe off hands with just water. They are easy to hold and make marks on paper with ease. My ds loves them. Great fun for a rainy day.
Hi,
I still have not bought her any...I thought I would leave it a little longer until she is a little older. But if they sell ones for one year plus then maybe I can get her some
Thanks :D
Asda have ones that are for 1year plus. My dd loves her crayons! - she is now 17 months and still has to be watched though as she does put them in her mouth and up her nose from time to time.
Great...I might get her some of those then!
Thanks for your help
hoi if you get the non toxic jumbo ones....she should be fine just watch her because she might try and chew it!!!!
Have fun.......

Hi,
I was just wondering what age could babies start using crayons?
My daughter is just over 13 months and I think she would like to have a go at scribbiling...she has had a little go with a pencil before and scribbled in her Dad's christmas card
I know she will probably want to eat them, but with careful supervision what do you think?
