hi ladies,

I had my little boy in november 07, 3 mths after i developed depression and the docs thought i had pnd, i was put on anti d's,

In the  mths i was on my anti d's i put on 21 lb i was devastated as u can imagine, i was only 10 stone when i got pregnant and now i was 13st 4.

After being refured to a dietician who could find absolutly nothing wrong with my diet the doctor then said she would do blood test to check my thyroid.

low and behold my results came back and they were quite bad so was put on thyroid tabs.

I have lost a stone in the last 7 weeks, i have been going to he gym 3 times a week and cutting down on my portion sizes.

i just want to know if anyone else is in the same situation since having there baby , it would be nice to talk to u xxxx

Thats strange, maybe theres some reason he wnats it to be under one? Anyway, I know in theory if your levels are stable theres no reason that weight can't be lost, unfortunately theres 1000's of women who still struggle because of their thyroid. I have other issues I have to sort out before I seriously start trying to lose again, but if I'm having a hard time I won't be blaming my  thyroid! LOL! I'll just look closer at what I'm eating/drinking/exercising! Good luck with your loss too!

the doctor wants me to be under 1...i happy with that!!!

I know that an under active thyroid can make u put on weight, but there is no reason what so ever why it cant be lost agan once ur thyroid is optimised..aslong as u are eating healthy and exercising u should lose weight..if u eat the wrong foods even a person without an under active thyroid will gain weight.

there are alot of success stories of ppl that have lost there weight, i suppose i am lucky as i am only 30 and alot of ppl this affects are over 50 when ur metabolism slows down anyway.

good luck with ur weight loss xxxx

Why do you want your TSH level to be under 1?  The range is between 0.5-5? I'm assuming your GP hasn't changed your dose as your tsh is now considered normal? Well done on the loss by the way, you're luckier than most sufferers!

i got my results back today my T3 IS 19.9 and my TSH is 1.22 so i am nearly there i want my tsh is be under 1.

i have lost 14lb in the last 7 weeks so i cant grumble about that, all my muscle aches and pains have gone too which is heaven..i had back ache for weeks i could hardly sleep.

i am carrying on taking my vit b and 5htp coz its making me feel loads better.

there are about 40 symptoms for hypo and alot of us suffer in differant ways.

I was just diagnosed in February. And had loads of bloods done since! I do feel better in general since starting the meds, but only for tiredness?

Well...I have a sluggish digestion, and do get tired quicker than normal, and have terrible acne- but I don't know if I can blame my thyroid for all of that! LOL! There are times when I'm convinced my levels must have changed but the bloods show them to be 'normal', so I guess its just on of those things? I may ask my Gp about how to help myself after my next bloods, as my skin is beyond a joke now, and mt weight is a serious issue too. I never actually see him about my thyroid- the nurse takes the bloods, gives me my results & leaves a prescription at the desk for me!

Thats okay! Just metion the supplements when getting the bloods done, and remember it can take up to 6wks to get an accurate reading after a new dosage, so try to be patient- although it IS frustrating when you want to get well! Good luck.

I'd check with your gp about the supplements- I was advised not to take any until my levels were stabilised? And the depression- well, I guess I was pi**ed off being tired all the time & that got me down, not sure if that would be classed as depression though? If it was a factor before your thyroid issues I'd mention it to your gp just to be sure?

another question.....when ur levels are still not right do any of u suffer with mild depression? i had it 5 mths ago before i was diagnosed and started my meds but its started to creep in again, i have asked for my blood test to be earlier as its not due for another 2 weeks.

i have started to take 5-htp recently so dont know if its that thats knocked my thyroid again.

do any of u take any supplements?

No- you'll get free prescriptions but thats all. Your meds should sort out your levels so you don't feel tired anymore.

    Hi to the OP,

I started having weight probs after my 5th child 20 years ago,I put it down to age at the time but was quite annoyed at the fact that with my first 4 kids I had managed to lose the weight really easily and stayed at size 10 most of the time, however after years of struggling to lose the weight I was then diagnosed with an under active thyroid 4 years ago (after having my 6th child) and then started on levothyroxine. My GP at the time refused to let me try lighterlife or cambridge diets and so I carried on struggling trying every other diet whilst all the time my 3 monthly blood test results were getting worse and the dosage I needed getting higher, however this year I got a new GP and he agreed for me to try cambridge diet to lose weight. Since then I have lost 3 stone in 4 months ( need to lose another 1st to reach target) and my thyroid levels have finally stabilised, also my blood sugar is down to normal level (was also a pre-diabetic previously) so now I can stay on fairly low dosage of 125 mg tabs, and have to go for yearly tests instead of every 3 months.

I googled Thyroid test result when I was first diagnosed and those were the figures I got- they could be haywire though? I've never asked/been told my t3/t4 results as my TSH levels were enough to show I was off-kilter?! They weren't as bad as yours though! Mine were discovered during a post-natal check-up- my initial TSH levels were 10.7, then went up to 10.9, then went down to 0.02 (!) after 6wks on 100mcg, so I was lowered to 75mcg and the last time they were 1.4- i.e. well within 'normal'. I get them re-checked again in 2wks or so to see how I'm doing on that dose. Its a pain in the ass! The GP said to me 'Do you not feel tired all the time' , I said 'Er I have a 3yr old and a 1yr old and work full-time- of course I'm tired all the time!'- Duh! LOL! I did notice a difference within a week or so of taking the meds though.

    i thought ur T4 shouldbe between 16 and 25???

    oh i am confused now...

yes my TSH as really high, the doctor did say to me i am very surprised how u have coped day too day with fatigue lol

hense prob the reason i feel 90|% better even though i am still not at the right levels.

my symptoms were terrible i had aches and pain all over, really bad cramp, terrible depression to the point i was feeling suicidal, but at the time the doc was treating me for pnd coz thats what she thought i had, it wasnt until i went back to her in may said i was putting weight on that she eventually checked my thyroid, but that was 3 mths down the line and 21lb heavier..
