Thanks for the replies. The scan was last thursday so it's been nearly a week now and I haven't heard anything so I'm taking that as a good thing!

I have had 2 cysts removed over the past 10 years and like the other poster said seeing adverts for breast cancer starts your mind thinking that you have something serious. To be honest it would be very wrong for the sonographer/radiographer to tell you if it was serious as not only does the imaging have to be referred to the consultant to be reported on, but it would be your consultant giving you the results. I know what a worrying time it is because l have been there and instead of 24 hours in a day it felt like my days were about 72hours long waiting for the results. 9 times out of 10 they are just simple cysts that will go away with 1 or 2 lots of anti-biotics or removed with a very quick procedure. If it turns out to be something serious then you have done the right thing and got it checked out and are in good hands.

I had to have a cyst removed about 2 years back now - i had it for ages before i went to the doc and just sort of knew thats what it was - they didnt say anything about it being rare to only have one! anyway it was because of a blocked milk duct - i just started making a small amount of mailk after i finished breastfeeding my son at the time was about 2.5 years!!!!! weird but they just had me in to take it out just by a local anestetic so i watched the whole thing really -not bad t all and you cant even see the scar now! it just blends in and was eay to take care of after and didnt give me hardly any pain at all!!!! hope it all goes well for you honey!! it can be very scarey when you go to the breast deptatment and all around you are posters about breast cancer - puts that doubt in your head - but try not to worry i'm sure you will be fine!!! big hugs!!! xxxxxxxxxxxx

I found a lump in my breast about a month ago. I went to get checked out at hospital and then got sent for a breast scan. The man who done the scan said it is probably a cyst but it is rare to just have one because they usually find a few. He said I should wait to hear from the hospital. Has anybody else had this and it tuned out to be just a cyst? If it was more serious would he of said? Thanks

You can always ring up your GP and ask if they have any results yet. They will have a copy sent to then or alternatively why not ring up the secretary of the breast unit to say that you have not had your results. This will give more peace of mind then waiting for a letter or phonecall
