Jeez! From one extreme to the other! I was diagnosed in March and have had my bloods taken every 6-7wks since! Its vital they do this when first diagnosed to ensure the right dosage is given? She really should get them re-checked? The 'norm' is to prescribe 50mcg at the beginning to see what difference it makes to the TSH levels, then adjust it accordingly. My THS levels were so high at the start I was started on 150mcg!

I get my next set done on Friday, and should get the results Tuesday. My TSH levels have been rising slightly since June or so, so I expect another slight rise, but you wouldn't know? They're still within the 'normal' range so I don't expect a meds change.

All i was told was they check for cysts and lumps, and to see if the thyroid is swollen, went this morn was told to go see my doctor in weeks time for results.

girl i work with has thyroid probs as well but said her doctor has never sent her either, but her doctor put her on 50mg and has never checked her bloods since

No, I was just handed a prescription for the meds! Did they say why you needed this? (just wondering?)

I have an underactive thyroid. I take 75mcg of Levothyroxine daily, and will have to for the rest of my life. The only 'bonus' is free prescriptions! I noticed a difference right away, but my levels were VERY high when I was first diagnosed. Weight-loss wise- it hasn't made ANY difference- I still find it extremely difficult to lose anything. My GP told me exercise is a must- as our metabolism's are extremely slow due the the condition, and the only way to 'rev' them up is by exercise. I've found this to be true- as I eat very well- all fresh, no processed/fried etc and still am not shifting the lbs yet. I've only started doing some exercise (I've finally given in! LOL!) so hopefully that'll make a difference?
