Hi i am glad that your son is ok. I can't believe about the hospital appt. They probably looked at results and saw that it looked ok so put your appt back but it doesn't stop you worrying they could have put your mind at rest. If your son as a big head he may be brainy that is what they said about my dd she had a big head her measurement is on the 98th centile. But saying that so is her height and weight so she is balanced out. She is very forward for her age. Hope you get more answers when you see the consultant. Sharon x

hi
My lo had his mri scan yesterday which was horrible to watch him go under again. This was his 3rd general anaestetic. He woke up screaming and fighting like anything, only thing that calmed him down was a bottle, i ended up crying as well. Anyway we have to see the consultant in the nxt couple of wks to find out result so hopefully he will say the same as he did at lo last appt. I will keep you informed. Thanks for all the advice. Its kept me sane!!!

Hi everyone
just to let you know had appt today and the doctor was really pleased with him. There seems to be no signs of anything wrong but are doing an mri scan just to be on the safe side. They believe it to be just his prematurity and that both me and my husband have fairly big heads as well. so can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Just wondering what usually happens, will they give him another cranial scan or will they have to give him a ct scan or will will they just discuss things with us and call us back later to have his scan. Just worried as he hates scans. He is doing really well smiling , laughing and is nearly rolling over. I'll let u know what happens at the appt

At least it has been noted and being investigated, the worst thing is when things are not noticed and looked at. Fingers crossed that everything goes well for you.

Hi, my dd who is 3 has Hydrocephalus, this is a build up of fluid in the brain due to a blockage somewhere in the brain, the neurosurgeons usually monitor this and if it gets any worse they may insert a shunt (drain) to release the pressure as a large build up would need emergency surgery and can cause brain damage. Tia has had her shunt in since she was 4 days old and has had no problems at all with it. There is a support site called ASBAH which explains about Hydrocephalus in more detail. Try not to worry too much, I know this is easier said than done, your lo will probably have either a CT or MRI scan to look at the ventricles in the brain to find out where the blockage is.
Good luck.

My dad has hydrocephalis (Sp!!) which is fluid on the brain but not sure if same thing? I know you can get this at birth or when older (if adult is normally due to one large blow or several small blows to the head). For him it meant that the fluid which surrounds your brain (stops it banging against the side of your head when you shake it) which normally is produced and absorbed at the same rate to maintain the pressure, was being made but not going, so it was building up., For young children this means that their because their skulls are soft and not fused, they start to enlarge, for adults as the skull is tougher, it means that it expands inside the brain cavaties and can basically cause any symptoms depending on where the pressure ends up, for my dad is was double vision and short term memory loss among other things. He had a tube fitted in his head that travels down a vein so his stomache to manually drain off the fluid.
I have no idea if this has anything to do with the issues that may be affecting your child, but thougth I would share them. My intention is definately not to scare you, so realyl hope have not made you worry un necessarily, but just to arm you with some information on possibilities etc.
Please don't take too much from what i have said as I am certainly no GP, just saw the words fluid on the brain which is what they used to describe my dads condition and thought I should post.
All the very best and hope that everthing goes well and is fine as far as your child is concerned. xxx

my daugther's head measurement is growing quicker than it should be doing and the doctor told me they would need to monitor it... i was devasted as she mentioned the name of what could be causing the enlargement (which i cant remember) and left it at that and told me she would get the health visitor to measure again in 2 weeks. My dp rang the health visitor on Friday as we were both very concerned but she didnt call back till this morning. She said she wouldnt of said anything to me until they are sure as she knows how much i worry (i have had health problems in the past).. when i asked her what the doctor had said it could be she said its "water on the brain" and she would be referred to a consultant if they decide it is it!! Am going to take taya on thursday now instead of the week after so until then i know no more... hope you're ok

My little boy had a cranial bleed due to prematurity and we have now been told he has extra fluid on brain as his head is a little big for his age, but is showing no other clinical signs, we do have to go and see a neurosurgeon up in london soon to get a second opinion. Has any one else been through this and what was the outcome. Little bit worried as baby as other medical problems. He is doing what he shhould be doing for his corrected age.

Fantastic news, hope all goes well with you from now on!
