Well we got our tins on Tues and Ethan has so far only had it mixed with food and doesn't seem to have noticed thankfully.  It turns baby rice quite a lot more sticky than EBM.  Will give it a few days before seeing if he will drink it.  The smell wasn't as bad as I was expecting but I haven't been brave enough to taste it yet!

I don't want to sound rude but if you went back to sma lf then your baby can't have really needed the Nutramigen!

The sma lf made Toby really ill and he'd have wasted away if I'd have kept him on that.

To be fair they did offer to order it in quickly but I couldn't get into town again so will try the local chemist tomorrow.  Not urgent anyway as I am still breastfeeding and only need it to cut down on expressing for mixing in food and as a back-up at the moment - I may well try to get him to drink it during the day in a couple of months as I'm hoping to cut down on BF. x

They shouldn't make u wait a week, that is ridiculous. All the chemists in my town will get it in the same day if u go early enough, or the next day at latest!!

Thanks everyone for your replies, I feel a little more positive about it now.  Went to get it today but Boots didn't have any so will have to wait to next week to see what the response is.  Nell x

hiya my ds started on nutramigen at about 5mths old. Wed had probs with weaning anyway due 2 his intolerence so we held off ont he food til his tummy was settled with nutramigen. It 2 a few weeks 2 up his intake as the first few days he wud jsut take 2oz at a time if that much. he lsot a lot of weight but soon started piling it back on.

I dont mix it with his food though, i use rice milk or soya milk as it tastes so much better. We had a really iffy start 2 weaning anyway and i dont think the taste of nutramigen helped he used 2 point blank refuse anything mixed with milk.

Hes 9mths 2day and hes really come on since then, he drinks 18oz of nutramigen a day no probs and is on 3 meals plus a snack mid afternoon. U will get there in the end.

The new tins I have say that it has a new improved taste but it doesn't smell any better and I'm not even tempted to try it as it made me gag before! lol!

My DS1 started nutramigen at about 10 months having been breast fed until then. He took it straight away - which really surprised us! They actually improved the smell of it about six months ago and believe me the new smell is SOOOOOOO much better than before!! It used to make me want to heave!

Apparently it tastes better too. Not that I have tried the new one!! Good luck. I think the dilution technique is supposed to work.

Hi my dd is on nutramigen milk i just kept trying her all the time it took 4days before she took it, she was fully weaned so it wasn't too bad if she missed a few days milk. Do what the other lady said do it gradually in her normal milk, it is an awful smell and taste, but they do get used to it. Good luck. Sharon x

When Toby was first put onto this milk he worried the hell out of me because he would not drink any at all and lost soo much weight. He was on 6oz bottles at the time and I had to do 5oz of his previous milk mixed with 1oz of Nutramigen for a couple of days, then do 4/2 for a couple of days, then 3/3 etc until he was on it fully.

It won't help with the problems your lo is having from the previous milk but it was the only way I eventually got Toby to take to it. Now I use it in his meals and cooking in replacement of cows milk and he loves it.

Fingers crossed your lo will take to it easier than Toby did, but if not perservere as it is definately worth it. Toby was like a new baby once he was on it 100%. Good luck x

Hi there, we have just been prescribed Neutramigen (sp?) and wondered what anyone's experiences have been please.  I understand it tastes and smells foul so interested to know if LOs drink it 'straight', and whether it can be detected when mixed with food?  Any views appreciated.

    Thanks

    Nell x
