My nearly 8-month-old son has excema. A few weeks ago I gave him scrambled egg, and the next morning his skin was blotchy in places. I haven't given him an egg since, but have spoken to our HV. She said to wait till he's 9 months old before I give him another egg, and that, if he has a severe reaction to it, he will need to have his MMR jab at 13 months in a hospital environment. I presume by "severe", she means anaphylactic shock? I
It all sounds quite worrying to me. Has anyone got any experience of this?

Hi. My ds, who is now 17mths, has eczema & both an egg & peanut allergy. It might be a good idea for you to wait a little longer before trying eggs again, just in case. Sometimes los can tolerate eggs cooked in other products (like a cake) but not separately (scrambled).
As for an mmr jab, having an egg allergy is no longer a contraindication. My lo has just had one this morning without a problem at all. The nurse will probably ask just to be on the safe side, and you will need to stay in the waiting room afterwards for a few extra minutes, but it is perfectly safe. The mmr jab used to be based on egg protein, but now it's made from chicken protein, so contains no actual egg at all.
Also, if you're able to get into London every now & again, you might want to look into the Leap Study. Ds is taking part & it's fab - free allergy testing & consultations with dieticians as necessary. http://www.leapstudy.co.uk/ . It's how we found out about ds's allergies, so have never had to go through the stress of an allergic reaction (his egg allergy is severe now).
Feel free to pm me if you need to chat, or want more info.
