Are you only giving him jars ? My health visitor said there is very little difference between the 4 mth jars and the 7mth jars except the 7mth ones are still pureed but have quite a few big lumps of tougher stuff like peas and meat etc. Thats why she told us to make our own and gradually mash it up less and less and to use finger foods too so that they control the big lumps. They have the gag reflex from 6 months so although it might be frightening if they choke - they are fully capable of coughing anything up.
Don't know if that helps but I hope so. I helped my sister wean my nephew 7 years ago and neither of us can remember what we did or when cause he just ate whatever you gave him (except heinz jars for some reason). Its weird cause when I am stressing to everyone about weaning they all say "so your a first time mum doing this" and I have to say yes she is my first but I have done it before - just that when you don't have a problem with something you forget - it's only the stuff thats hard or upsetting that we remember.
Good luck xxx

Hi my dd also has reflux but i was lucky she was very quick to eat lumps i weaned her early she was 4mths old. But she didn't get diagnosed until she was 11mths old and we just kept getting fobbed off by the health service by 6mths old she was eating lumps and bigger stuff ie toast fingers chips yorkshire puds. But don't worry there are a lot with reflux that hardly eat at all due to pain, my dd just ate and ate and found that eased the pain she was a very big baby and that is why she got diagnosed late. If you are really worried try talking to your pead about it is he losing weight? Sharon x
