Since stopping dd having any dairy (butter, milk, cheese, etc) back in March her excema has COMPLETELY gone. I was putting on hydrocortisone every few hours on the worst bits. Then when I cut out milk I just covered her with nappy balm but she still had patches and was scratching 'til she bled and since giving up the cheese and butter etc I don't use anything and she has no excema. None at all. Fairy double concentrated also caused her to have big itchy flare ups so I just use surecare and eco balls. hth Oh yes, gp said it was dribble rash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what all over her chest, shoulders and behind her knees?

Hi to those with children who have eczema,  My child had eczema at 3 months and is three and a half now and it has been tough.  The eczema is clearing up and my child is alot happier!

But don't think that you are giving up on your child, by leaving out the dairy products, because I did that.  Yes, my child wasn't gaining weight and the hospital even said that my child was not thiving.  I was determined to prove them wrong.  My child weighed 14lbs at one year old and 21lbs at two. Current weight is over 35 lbs and climbing with the growth.

Please push for help from your health visitor and refer to a dietician and see a dermatology doctor or nurse for an initial assessment.  All of these professionals were able to give me support and even if I had to see them 3 times for the week, believe me I was at their doorstep and they were helpful each time.  My doctor was helpful for the ongoing prescriptions for all of the medication needed.

Yes, I was advised to use all sorts of alternative medicines, which I tried (within reason), but I had to go back to the professional, because nothing worked.

I have a few more grey hairs, but the rewards of my constant persuing for answers to my questions and seeking the attention and support I so vitally need to care for my child has all been worthwhile.

i'm sure that certain foods can flare up eczema, i am bf my 5 month old, and if i have any dairy products, (more milk than anything else) his eczema flares up really bad. i tried him on formula a few times and he has the same reaction to this,  i am only eating certain foods now and this has led his weight gain to slow down alot. im out of my mind with not knowing what to do and feel like i am letting him down bcause of the quality of my milk and thats why hes not gaining weight as he should be!

if you suspect its food based i would advise keeping a food diary

write down EVERYTHING that your LO eats and what the skin condition has been like on that day...keep it up for a couple of weeks at least

remembering that things can take up to 3 days to go thru the system and have a look and see if there is any possible recurring factor

dont remove things from your LOs diet like dairy etc without dietition advise, but if it is something like that possibly causing a problem then you will have a record in writing that they can look at and make a dietry descision from there

Hello, my son's excema flared up within days of starting to wean him (at 6 months) the consultant I saw said it is not related to food - but I don't believe that.  My dd had excema when she was little anything dairy would dry her skin up.

If certain foods bring up your lo in a rash/spots etc, then I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect this to irritate sensitive skin.

It does for my dd. She has food allergies which really make her skin bad.
