Waitrose sell it for 6 months plus, formula for younger ones needs to be ordered from the internet.  My DS sees a peadatrition and he said I could try it.  When I did, DS had a nasty reaction immediately and when I called the HV to ask what to do, she shouted at me for giving it to him!  When she calmed down, she said I should never have given it to him and couldn't believe I'd been advised to as most children are allergic to goats milk if they are to cows.

Hi there- my lo has been on goat's milk formula since she was about 4 months old and it greatly improved her eczema- she had tried the normal milks and prescribed milk- we saw the paediatrician that said it wouldn't make any difference but we tried anyway- as you know how distressing it is with eczema it was worth a try and it has worked well- it's not completely gone and we have good and bad days with the eczema but it has made an improvement. The best improvement has been with her reflux though- she would projectile vomit any of her formula's - nutramigen, aptamil- you name it, she would throw it all back up but she took to the goat's milk brilliantly and hasn't thrown up at all with it- only a couple of possets now and again if she was too full or squished her tummy. I highly recommend it but it's extremely expensive- so much so we're not sure we can afford to keep her on it The way we look it at it- goat's milk is easier to digest than cow's- that's a pure fact. Yes there is lactose in it and protein but it's much easier to digest- same as prescribed milk- it still has cow's milk in it- just made easier to digest. However- goat's have one stomach same as humans and cow's have 4 that they need to digest... to me it made sense to go with the one that seemed easier to digest. It's completely down to you- maybe try it for 6 weeks and see how it goes? hth x

I am using goats milk on myself and my son. Not as a drink though it is a home made cream that my dad gets where he lives in wales.

    It's good stuff though.

Goats milk has the same proteins in as cows and dd has the same reaction to it as cows. However what I eat and drink does not affect her through my bm and I eat cheese, drink milk etc. I cut out all dairy with dd at the end of March as I was tired of applying hydrocortisone that worked over night only for the excema to flare up again the next day. Gp and hv said dairy allergy was unlikely but paediatrician has always been really supportive. She has not been tested- he took our word for it and if I decide to stop bf ever (lol) he said he will prescribe a dairy free formula. Oh yes- she has been COMPLETELY clear of excema since I cut out dairy (for her). Even if she is splashed with milk she comes up in a rash so the paed thinks her allergy is severe but is happy for us to manage it. hth

A dr tried to tell me it had no affect on lo either, they got a mouthful from me and haven't argued with me since lol. Yes lo does get what we eat through bf but it's in such small quantities that normal food doesn't really affect them. However, if they are allergic to milk then the small amount that gets to them through the milk will upset them. In some ways it's lucky you are bf cos i hate to think what reaction lo would have had to a dairy product.

We've never had lo tested as they are very reluctant to do them here under 1 (bloomin nhs and their cost cutting). They just kept telling us that lo would outgrow it - showing no signs and even now they're agreeing she may not. Just don't be surprised if they don't offer it straight away (although i've seen lots of people on here getting them tested with no problems - must depend where you live i guess)

You should ask to be referred to a dietician too, they can give you ideas on what you should avoid, the hidden names for milk in food and some milk free recipes and things when lo is weaned. hth hun xx

thanks for ur advice, this is what i was thinking too. i went to see GP about it and she has referred lo to see the dermatologist for skin test to see if he has milk allergy. that was the only good thing i was happy about after seeing GP, i didnt feel she knew what she was talking about. i might be wrong but i didnt believe it when she told me that me drinking cows milk whilst bf doesnt have any affect on lo coz what i eat and drink doesnt pass through to lo! can anyone clarify this for me as i am 100% sure it must do! i am just looking forward to getting an appointment throug with the dermatologist

    Hey

I'm not sure why your hv suggested goats milk - most babies that are allergic to cows milk also have problems with goats milk because it's the same kind of protein in it (the same trouble breaking it down iykwim). I know in our case the dietician has told us to avoid it til lo is at least one - and she's 10 months atm.

I think there's something about lo not having it til they're older too, even for babies that don't have problems with cows milk (i might be wrong about this but i'm sure i've seen it somewhere.)

Have you asked about getting a hydrolysed formula for lo? Even if it's just to mix in with food etc? Lo is still bf and we use neocate to mix in with her cereal and to cook for her.

If you really want to go the goats milk way then be careful, but if lo can handle it then i'm sure it's ok. Have you been referred to a dietician or anything yet? xx
