If your ds is fine on formula then it's unlikely that it is a dairy allergy, maybe more of an intolerance to it or something, we ended up paying for allergy tests as my ds nearly died at 6wks of malnutrition cos the gp kept fobbing us off. I was bfing. It only cost £20 and was the best thing we could've done. If you can afford to do this, then why not get your ds tested and maybe you can use goats or sheeps cheese instead of cow's cheese? If not there is a dairy free cheese flavour sauce that I buy for my ds in Tesco, in the free from aisle. It tastes like cheesey wotsits but is completely dairy free. He loves it and now I have gone dairy free to make it easier. Hope this helps a bit. xx

My ds is 8mth and I think he is dairy intolerant. I have been fobbed off so much my HV and drs that I have only just found out (and still I wouldn't call it a diagnosis). When he was about 2mth they said he might have reflux and to try gaviscon - after a couple of weeks I had to give up and my HV suggested at 11 wks we tried weaning. As soon as I introduced rice and a little bit of veg I had a different baby - so happy but occassinal screaming and arching when feeding but I could deal with that rather than fill him with drugs. We introduced diary at 6mths and it all went pear shapped, more arching/crying and explosive nappies 6+ times a day everyone involving a change of trousers so I decided to isolate the issue - and dairy it is. I'm lucky as he is fine on a normal formula - we use Hipp.
Only issue is that I've recently returned to work full time and he goes to a child minder who is veggie. While she will feed him meat she doesn't cook it. While ds is up on his weight he is tall and thin and as he is now on the move I'm begining to be able to see his ribs more - what can I use to repalce cheese which is high in fat? Thanks

Thanks McDizzy - I will have a look for the sauce at the weekend. We have had blood test done which showed there were no issues so I'm sure its intolerance rather than allergy. I'm glad that your soughted now, its rubbish what GPs and HVs put us through and you have to push so hard for help. My DS is OK on his wieght - not a great curve but have been up to fifty % from second.
