I have been here too.
I agree with pp, you need a referral to a paeditrican or dietician to be prescribed a milk, soya has been shown to reduce sperm count and can trigger further allergies with babies - don't mean to scare you and it probably won't but this is the reason for the other milks. When i am being disorganised we have to use soya cos i haven't ordered enough milk!
Can you see a locum or other doctor in the surgery - sod the hv, after 5 mths on neocate mine has finally accepted the allergy, i could have slapped her when she suddenly tried to be supportive!
For both the doc and paed, write down all of the possible signs and symptoms your lo had and for each one the changes that happened when you gave soya (with it written down your doc will see how much impact it has and can't argue against a whole page.)
Our symptoms were - Rash, Being full of catarrh, wind, colicky symptoms, blistering lips (a bit like thrush), runny poo with seedy types in them, painful after feeds, chesty breathing partic at night. (just in case he had some and you hadn't realised)
We had normal weight gain so they were unhelpful at first. You need to push them unfortunately.

Hey hun
Soya under 6 months isn't recommended as many babies with milk allergies also develop or have allergies to soya - your lo may be fine now but might not be in a few weeks time. You need to ask to be referred to the hospital - dieticians can prescribe you a hypoallergenic formula that can be used ie nutramagin, neocate etc.
The dr should refer lo without a problem but if they do ask to see another dr hun. As to food you just need to check the packaging of normal baby food - a lot of the cow and gate stuff doesn't have milk in it. I do have a list of alternative names for milk if you need them i can hunt it out (baby food will say milk but normal food normally hides it under another name)
If you need any help just pm me hun, i've been where you are now and it's no fun at all xx

Hiya Ladies,
Well i feel totally lost, since stopping breast feeding and putting my little boy on formula he has been really sick intially the doctor said it was reflux so gave me gaviscon to put in formula this didn't work, at the same time a rash broke out all over his face and neck and tummy, the doctor said this was just his body getting wet from all the sick. The rash at its worst was red raw and bleeding. Then my health visitor suggested staydown formula which again didn't work. Tried all the other brands of formula none of these helped either.
My little boy is now just over 5 months, i was talking to my dad last week and he remembered that i had a milk alergy from birth till i was 6 years old, he suggested i try my lo on wysoy and overnight it was as if i had a different baby, not so sick, rash has significantly healed, more settled with every feed.
I told the health visior that i had changed him onto soya formula and she was most unimpressed telling me there was no need to do that, and there is no subsistute for proper formula.
Neither the health visitor or doctor will seem to entertain the idea of an allergy test, saying well if he is settled on soya you may as well just carry on, and when it comes to weaning, wean him on soya products.
So now i'm on my own and a bit in the fog.
Where do i get soya products? do any baby brands make soya products?
Need help mums?

Hi my dd was the same it took 11mths of pure hell for her to get finally diagnosed and the problem was that she was gaining weight so they didn't think anything was wrong as she was thriving. She was projectile vomiting but that stopped when weaned it then went onto her chest and she sounded like she had cf she was that bad. She was finally referred when i was at the end of my tether and she had a barium meal which showed the reflux. She is now on full meds and an hypoallergenic milk. You definately need to be referred as it is the only way forward just say you demand a peadiatrician see to your lo. Good luck hope you get sorted and it is right what pp say about soya. Sharon x
