Hiya hun, I feel for you - I know someone who suffered with Bulimia for 15-20 years and to some extent life does continue but with that at the back of her mind- she will always be controlling her food intake but luckily isn't being sick.  She knows that when she's under emotional stress, family stress, work etc- and it all gets a bit too much she's likely to lapse so she tries to make sure she can juggle things better.  I know this is only a snapshot of her problem, but to be honest i haven't been told too much about it- just a bit.  You mentioned counselling- do you know what type of counselling you had?  I would seriously recommend Cognitive Behavioural Counselling- which is what I'm training in and it has some excellent results for people with Bulimia.  It's very structured and goal focused but also taking into account your feelings- it's about you and the counsellor working together- and finding ways of coping that you are happy with.  I hope that makes a little sense.  Maybe chat to your GP if you can and see if they can offer CBT for you? If not I'd check www.bacp.org website that have a list of private counsellors.  Big hugs and pm if you want xx

Hi, I had it for many years.I started dieting when I turned about 16, that quickly got out of hand and almost became anorexic, I say almost as I never went below 9st ( I am 5Ft 7 inch) but i had the mentality of an anorexic. I would not eat for days on end and would stand on the scales every day sometimes 5 times a day. My mother took me to the doctor and i was strictly monitored. that is the thing that turned me bulimic though. Because I was forced to eat, i would just throw it back up again, first once a day, then twice then after everything I ate ! i was very good at hiding it and did this for nearly 15 years(between being 20 to about 35, I am now 41)What made me stop ?? My brother committed suicide and I took a good look at myself and thought " what the hell am I doing to myself ?" Also I wanted to have a baby and I knew I could not get through a pregnancy throwing up all the time and take food away from my unborn child. My husband was quite aware of it and tried to help me but of course you have to want to change. It was not easy and I have had times of relapse, usually when something upsetting happens in my life.I also damaged my throat, I have a small whole at the back of it where i used to put my fingers, it will never heal but luckily it doesn't hurt. did i gain weight after I stopped ? Yes, i weigh more then I have ever done and I hate it, but i know I can't go back to the way things were, I have a nearly 4 year daughter and I do not want to set a bad example to her. When I first stopped it was really hard, the urge to want to throw it back up was so immense I just wanted to cry, I felt so restless and bloated but I stuck to it. if you want to get better you can do it ! tell me your story.

This is so hard to talk about but i dont know who else i can turn to. I have a problem with bulimia i have done for years 10-15yrs. I have had counselling but it didnt work.

Im sorry i have just said so much but i had to delete it as i cant bring myself to posting it all.

Is there anyone suffering bulimia, or that has suffered from it and pulled through it? If you have and are able to talk about it then i would be really pleased to here from you. x
