Hi I don't know but I am taking our lo to docs again today. She is 18 weeks and had a cold at xmas, we had a brief period where she recovered and now she has developed a really bad mucus cough again. Think this virus that's doing the rounds is pretty hideous as the cough lingers for ages (I have had it for nearly a month as have other people we know). I guess if you are worried take him back to docs.

Hi my lo had a bout of bronchiolitis after Xmas and then just as it was going developed another cold! I took him to the doctor who said it hadn't gone onto his chest this time. However, he sounds like he has alot of mucous at the back of his throat and he coughs periodically throughout the day to clear it. Is this normal for a cough to linger this long after a virus, should I be worried?

There is probably 2 parts to why your bub is still having the lingering cough. Firstly, babies arent able to cough up the mucous like we are so it takes a lot longer for it to clear. Secondly, Bronciolitus symptoms linger for a long time and tend to come back whenerver they get even the smallest cold. My son was hospitalised with it at 13 weeks and is now 3 and has been in and out of hosptial with it again numerous times and whenever he got a cold all the symptoms came back. If bub isnt getting sicker with it I wouldnt worry to much, also you probably know the breathing signs now to look out for. However if you are concerned take bub back to be checked to ease your mind. Specially as I said bubs who have had bronc, tend to get it easily again. hth
