Yea i know its major surgery and prob best avoided but wat i am worried about is going all the way thru labour and then having an emergency c section, thats meant to be very hard on ya, my sister was in labour 3 days and got to 9 n half cms dilated and then had to have an emergency c section and even had to have her bladder repaiered bubs was stuck!
So this is a fear for me because i think if u do the long tiring labour and all then have surgery tat wud b hell!! im not very strong atm as been thru so much as im sure alot ofu have i duno how im guna get thru this practically disabled now!
I agree with leanne. CS not an easy option because you don't have to labour. You just have all the pain afterwards. My DS is 21 months and my scar is still tender. I couldn't walk for 2 days after the op, I put on weight after he was born (because up until the day he was born I was walking the dog and swimming every day) and afterwards it took me months to get back to being fit. I don't know about spd but I would really seriously consider all the downsides of a CS before you ask for one.
Anyone?? please!
Saw my consultant/professor and he recomends i have a natural birth with an epi, but wrote in my notes if any major hold ups to do a c section...
saw the anethatist and he said i can have an early epi as soon as i am in establishe labour...
Professor said to expect a 9 pound baby, he said baby was already just over 4 pound and that was a couple of days before i wud hit 30 weeks, im back again for my 35 weeks appointment in 5 weeks and if baby is really big im going to ask them to induce me a little early as i cannot hardly walk at all, if i have to go out anywere shopping i have to go in a wheel chair as i am not even able to walk for more than about 5 steps with crutches!!!
I,m, very confused now as ive heard so many people says different things, alot of women are saying u shudnt have an epi with spd inase u do damage, others say its fine, and also the fact im having a big baby is making the whole thing alot worse!! I have no idea how i am going to manage literally to the loo and back or to turn in bed or get washed, right now its a struggle and nearly not possible!!!
My legs feet face hands and ankles are very swollen!! ive balls in front of my eyes and bad head aches some days!!
My bp is ok but! well was last time iwas checked.
the pain is so bad i dunno wat to do!! i take co codamol when im desperate and cant stick it anymore but even it only takes a lil edge of it! i dont wanna take anything stronger tho, not that i have been offered it!!!
I asked the professor was theyre anway i cud be indiced a couple of weeks early and he said no we dont do that anymore and it usually leads to a c section when u try to induce, he also said that he thinks i will go overdue because its my first baby.... there is noway i can even get to 35 weeks the way i feel now never mind over 40.....
wat wud use guys do in my position????
i had bad spd throughout my pregnancy ended up on crutches. when i went into labour i found out my baby was breech so had to have a emergency section. i was in agony afterwards not just due to my stitches but also my spd went so bad. because i was lying on my back for practicall y 2 days solid it felt like my hips were so far apart i was in agony!
im still recovering now and my lo is 6 months. i havent experienced a natural birth with spd but all im saying that it isnt easy having a section the pain after is emense with the added pain of the spd. i was on strong pain killers and anti inflamatories for weeks after and infact i still am on painkillers now. i also still have to have the pillow between my legs too! not all experiences will be the same but i dont think it will be easier having a section as the consiquences of lying on your back for so long are soo painfull.
i hope this helps xx
i hope this helps
Hi I have a 15month old dd and ds1 is 4 when I had my section so the main concern is lifting your ds and at three he sould be not needing lifted very much (not that you can lift with SPD anyway) so you should be fine if you decide to go for a section hth Linds xxx
hiya, i am in same position as youself and really tormenting myself over the whole thing! i have had SPD since about 16 weeks and i am now 32 weeks, i have consulted again in a couple of week and i am tempted to ask for a csec, my only main worry is recovery as i have a 3yr old boy i am i am worried i wont be able to give him as much attention as i would like, my delivery with my son ended up in epdiural and foreceps delivery as he was a big boy so dont want to run the risk of having to go through that again!

Hi I had/have DSP and was in a wheelchair from 22wks (my ds2 is now 5 and a half weeks old) and had to fight with my consultant for a section even though my doc at the pain clinic and physio recomended it and then all the staff in the hospital (when I was in for bedrest then my secion) said that I souldnt have had to fight for it. Just to warn you to really push the point if you meet any oposition your consultant might be fine but alto of them dont really know much about SPD or are only really aware of mild cases. Good luck and let us know how you get on Linds xxx
Thanks, well i saw physio today and she asid she thinks i shud go for a c section and to talk to consultant so that i will do on monday!!
She gave me a support and crutches.
My ds was born by cs. He was a big baby and was back to back. I also had spd and could only lie in certain positions and couldn't part my legs very much. They were concerned that if I had an epidural then needed an assisted delivery, I may be damaged permanently as I would not be able to feel the pain if I moved too much. hth.
I had a c section mainly cos baby was breach but also i had bad spd and could hardly walk towards the end.
I was lucky that i had a nice midwife who was quite supportive and i was referred to the specialist. I think it really depends on the hospital. Its worth a try though
Sorry its not much help but didn't want to read and run.

Hi everyone im currently 29 weeks preg, well supposed to be although i don't know my last period date!
I am measuring 33 cms at the minute and the last time babys head was measured he was measuring just ova 30 weeks, this was about 2 weeks ago i think ....
What i am wondering is....
Is there much chance of them allowing me to have an elective c section??? At first i didn't want to but now i think its what i will nneed because of spd!!.
If i am having a big baby, if i am not further on will they induce me early as i am in agony and cant walk due to spd???
Any advice would be excellent as i am very stressed and worried about ow i will cope frm now on!!
Also if anone has a similar story i wud love to hear from u, thanks xxxxx

Hi I was in this position with my dd there is all sorts of advice flying about re SPD/DSP but you ave to do what you feel is right. I didnt have SPD with ds1 had a fab labour with him (got stuck at 3cm for 48hrs but once I went on the drip I was fine andlabour wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be at all). When I fell pg with dd the SPD started almost right away I kept complaining to mw about the pain but she said it was normal, I was finally diagnosed and put on crutches at 16wks and in a wheelchair from 28wks it was awful and like you I didnt know how I would cope with labour as I coudnt even manage a no2 (sorry tmi) I was advised by my consutlant to have an early epidural and keep it topped up for as long as needed afterwards (I know this works well for some so long as your legs are nor parted beyone your pain free gap) but I had no pain free gap so I was still scared. He also agreed to induce labour at 37wks so long as my cervix was ripe and my mw gave me lost of tips of how to encourage it as well as giving me extra checks to make sure I wasnt breech just in case. I had the prostin at 37wks and then they broke my waters and my labour was an hour and a half from waters being broken and I thought I was going to die (given that I knew what a "normal" labour was meant to feel like) all the pain was in my pelvis and all the positions recomended for SPD labour were agony so I ended up on my back also the epidural I was given didnt work at all. I was left with long term damage as a mw pulled my legs apart dispite dhand I screaming at her not to and she manages to tear the ligaments in the SPjoint and cause a small racture to my already dislocated hip. I never recovered I was still on co-codamol when I fell pg again (I was also still in a wheelchair for 9wks after dd was born) (had asked to be sterilised as I also have probs with hormonal contraceptives but was told no way as am under 30 but that is another story) When I fell with ds2 (now 6wks) I was devistated and really really scared that i told my consultant I would rather have a termination than go through a labour like that again so it was agreed I would have a section (in the end physio and doc at pain clinic all said that there was no way I was to deliver myself)
I had a section 6wks ago and yes the recovery from that is difficult the first time you get up you feel like you are going to bust open and die but after that its ok the day after I was first up was walking around the ward with my crutches and I felt great, I am still on co-codamol for my pelvis but the section recovery was fine and I know that more damage hasnt been done - I can walk around so long as I have my pram or crutches and my docs are all shocked at how well I have recovered and I am being used as a case studdy for SPD/DSP . I wish I had pushed for a section with dd. You do what your gut is telling you to do even if you need to fight for it,a planned section is deffo better than an emergency. Please feel free to pm me if you want to chat or ask anything else - I hope my story helps you.

ps forgot to say my section was also at 37wks and I really couldnt have gone any longer than that and my wee man is great and really healthy (he was 6lb 7oz so was heading to be big too)
