Hi hun- firstly try not to worry - i am the worlds biggest  wimp when it comes to needles & pain! I had my daughter by elec c sec 9 weeks ago & looking back it was a positive experience because you can plan. I was in at 8am & got to theatre about 9.30 but i watched tv & talked a load of nervous waffle to my husband - plus we were still deciing on names as we didn't know what sex the baby was. When i got to theatre i was excited to know we would have a baby within the next few minutes & we did. Once Taliah came out - i was that bothered about looking at her & crying that i forgot about the doctors who were stitching my belly! The only thing i would say is that although we took the camera in - we really didn't get a chance to take a picture as we were too bothered about looking at our new little girl.

Once stitched up - they gave me her whilst husband got changed & wheeled me back to the ward.

Be prepared to lose your dignity - you bleed a lot & of course you don't know anything about it cos you cannot feel anything. Also the nurses will come & bedwash you!

My daughter was born at 10.23 & my mum & dad came up at 2pm! I wasn't that tired - just on a high! I too was out of bed at 5pm that day so they could change it for me & was totally up and hobbling the next day!

I came home after 3 nights & had visitors non stop. I probably didn't give myself enough rest as i am always on the go & the week after i had given birth it was so hot - i couldn't stay in the house. You'll know yourself what you can & can't do.

Overall enjoy - good luck xx (sorry i went on!)

I had to be at the hospital at 7AM, they wouldn't say when I was scheduled for, as it depended on who got there first, how many emergencies they had etc. It turned out that someone got there before me (I was on the dot I swear!) and they had back to back emergencies all day. I went down to theatre after 3pm, was bored and scared stiff, and found that the theatre staff hadn't had a break since 8am! Take loads of magazines, and if your DP or anyone else is with you, make them take some sandwiches or get something to eat before you go down. DP had a sandwich and was still light headed after the op.

I did feel drowsy but they had sedated me for part of the op and I woke up in recovery. I had morphine in a demand drip, but I felt fine.

I wasn't in pain because of the drip I had. Actually, the greatest relief (Literally, and which made all the nursing staff laugh, even though they've probably heard it before) was that they kept my catheter in for 2 days. After months of trekking to the loo several times an hour, it was such a relief not to be on the loo all the time!!!

I was on my feet on the 2nd day as I was quite weak, that was just a move to the chair while they swapped the bed over but it felt like I ran a marathon...! Day 3 they took out the catheter and I made it to the shower room and back on my own. I was allowed a visitor other than DP the same evening as the op, as he'd rung my best friend needing a bit of support. She actually has the same surname and can get away with saying she's my sister, but they had no problems with her visiting.

    hth.

Totally agree, the itchy face thing id forgotton about until you mentioned it, lol.   Drives you crazy.   just side effects of anaesthetic.  i was so hungry as well, as you have to starve before the op and was dying for some tea and toast after.   but midwifes told me i might be sick.   I wolfed it down then was sick!   lol   its funny how many thing you do forget and then the memories come flooding back.   as for the shaving business, lmao, i wasnt told this either and had a support worker do it.   was so embarrassed, but hey ho. wasnt going to see her again.

i wont be dissapointed if ive got to have a section again, as much as i would like to try a vbac as this will be my last child. we will see.

so ladies please dont worry and enjoy the experience. x x x x x

    Hi

I had an elective c-section 4 weeks ago and was absolutely petrified given I've never had even a tooth filling!

    1) What happens in the ti e you go in till your in theatre (i have to be there for 11 for an afternoon section)

I'm not sure as mine was at 9am but I guess you will sit around so books etc are a good idea

    2) Do you feel drowsy/not with it on the ward afterwards? I did with my emergency one but this could have been the drugs i had for my attempted natural?

After the spinal, you don't feel much at all. They spray you with a cold spray to check that you're properly numb. It's a very weird sensation that you can't feel your legs as they just feel verfy heavy, but it's not a nasty sensation. After I'd been stitched up,I started feeling really woozy and was slurring my words when trying to talk. This again was weird but in now way horrible and was down to the morphine. I think it took a couple of hours for the spinal block to wear off, but to be honest by the time you are holding your baby, you forget about it anyway. The whole experience is strange but in no way painful. I also found that with being drowsy I forgot some things till a few days later.

    3) What were you feelings afterwards when you were on the ward? Were you in awful pain or o.k etc?

I was never in pain at any point. I was drowsy quite a bit of the day of the operation but it's a nice drowsy. The nurses will top up your painkillers as required so you'll not be in pain at any time. I felt very relaxed afterwards., hard to describe!

    4) How soon were so on you feet and able to have visitors?

I was on my feet about 10 hours after the operation and had visitors just a few hours after the operation. I was walking around totally normally by the next day and was home after just one night in.

It's really nothing like you imagine, I was very surprised how straightforward and pain free it was!

Hi, please dont be worried, its easy for me to say this as ive already had an elective c section.  im a born worrier and i was so scared i cried all the way to theatre!   but i can honestly say I dont know why i was fussing so much, its the unknown that you are scared off.     It was the best experience for me in the world, so calm and quite in theatre and they talking constantly to you, telling you exactly what they are going to do and the next.

Lasts probably an hour  from getting to theatre to delivery and stitching up time.

As for pain killers they will give you a spinal block so you dont feel anything from boobs down.  And when it starts wearing off it will feel like pins and needles from feet upwards.  mine section was at 1pm and started wearing off around 8pm.  they topped me up with morphine after and then all i took was cocodamol and paracetemol.   Everyone is different and will have other experiences, just wanted to tell you mine.   was up walking about the day after and had visitors the same evening.

i wish you well and hope you have a positive experience with your birth.

    good uck

Afterwards I wasnt really in pain because of the painkillers i was on, although couhing was painful!

I hope that helps, sorry in two bits! Couldnt remember what i was writing after 2 minutes - pregnancy brain i guess!! Good Luck, in all honesty the worse bit was just the waiting because you dont really know how long you'll be until you go in.

    hi.

Before your section take some mags or books or something. I was in a waiting room and had a t.v and that to watch as well as my mags to read. I was in hospital from 8am but didnt actually go to theatre until 2pm. It all depends whether any one is rushed in for an emergancy section whilst your waiting for your elective on how long you actually have to wait if that makes sense!

I was light headed and felt drunk after, mainly due to painkillers. I was up and about the next day alhough i had visitors the same evening - just family.
