My first baby was an extended breech, I had all the blood tests ready for a planned section, but my daugther had other ideas and was born via an emergency section. Everything was fine afterwards. My daugther is nearly 3 and she is a very active little girl!Hope this helps

Hi I had my baby 3 weeks ago by c section as she was extended breech with her feet by her head too, i was really worried about everything! but everything was fine, she is perfect im recovering really well and her legs sort of stuck out for the first day then she only does it when she sleeps when i pick her up there are no feet in the babygrow feet they are up by her belly like a little frog which looks so sweet, but thats only when she sleeps, she is forgetting now and is starting to stretch out more.

Try not to worry mine was the same as yours and were both fine, the experience was not half as bad as i thought it would be, and I got to have her two weeks early as my last vaginal birth was fast they dident want me to go into labour on my own.

You can push for a vaginal birth I could have tried as she was my third but i went for the safest option for my baby and less stressfull too.

    Good luck

My hospital also do not have any one experienced in breech births so went for a section. My babies legs were fine and not up to his face

Ditto- my hospital has no-one experienced in it either and I would've had to travel over 100miles when in labour if I'd wanted to try a vaginal birth- but I personally wouldn't have risked it anyway? My 1st lo was transverse breech (also with her feet in front of her face- it took her a day or so to straighten out! LOL!) so she wasn't coming out any other way except via cs but I didn't care as long as she was healthy.

My hospital (delivers 4500 babies a year) has no one experienced in vaginal breech birth and would not support it. Don't assume you have the choice.

    Good luck though.

    Hi,

You are never forced to have a section the decision is always yours to make.  My DD was due on 8th Jan this year and a week before Christmas I was sent for a scan as DD appeared to have a very bony bum!!  Scan revealed she was footling breech.  I had an amazing consultant.  I was dead set on a water birth, no epidural etc so wanted to anything I could to get her turned.  I went back two days later for my ECV, I saw the same consultant.  He explained that the only real danger of the ECV was that it could distress the baby, if it did this would mean an immediate section.  Seeing as my alternative was a section anyhow I decided to go for it.  He twisted her around 3 or 4 times but she just kept popping back up, her feet were wedged well down in my pelvis.  We then discussed the option of a natural breech birth.  He told me that a footling breech is dangerous because the presenting part of the baby is basically the feet, before the cervix is fully dialated the feet and body can slip through meaning the head gets stuck.  With feet around the head the bum is the presenting part so is just about as big as the head and the cervix will fully dilate prior to baby moving down he birth canal. (a friend of mine gave birth to her first baby breech in this way).  The consultant I had had spent a lot of time working in the third world and had literally delivered hundreds of breech babies.  He said he was happy to deliver my baby breech as he would know the signs to look for to take me in for an emergency section.  We agreed on a C-section date, 31st December and that if I went into natural labour before then he would try to deliver naturally.  New Years Eve arrived and no sign of baby, she was born by C-section in the end.  I had no end of problems after the op, got a hospital bug but the op was not nearly as bad as I had made it out to be in my mind.   You have a beautiful baby in your arms at the end of the day whichever way its delivered, good luck

hi all, just got back from the midwife and the baby is still breech im getting a presentation scan done on monday to see what sort of breech the baby is, i know is extended breech coz i got a 3d scan done on saturday and she confirmed it had been like that since 27 weeks!! once ive had my scan i get sent to a consultant who will then tell me the proceedure for a section, they wont try and turn the baby if it is still extended breech and wont offer me a vaginal birth because im only 18 and this is my first and thats just the hospitals policy. im pretty gutted but not too bad as i just want my baby to come out healthy, even if its legs will b stuck to its face for a few days!! thanks for everyones help xxx

My ds was extended breech and I had no choice other than a section (but then I didn't push it). I also had gest diab and had a planned cs at 39 weeks. They would have let me go to 40 if it wasn't the week before Christmas

It your choice if you want a natural birth as professionals including midwives have the skills needed to birth breech baby or you can opt for a c section as there can be increased risk for a vaginal breech birth. Its your choice tho hun xxx

i had a section 5 weeks ago as my ds was breech. My hospital dont like to deliver breech babies to first time mums and i thought a section would be the best and safest option. I decided aggainst having the baby turned as my son had been breeched from at least 28 weeks and didnt turn, he was a long baby so i think he got stuck!!! The section was great, felt no pain, was uncomfortable for a couple of days and feel really good now

    good luck]

sorry forgot to mention i was 36 weeks when they found he was breech and i really thought hewould turn but some babies are just comfy the way they are.    im not sure what policies your hospital has about breech vaginal deliveries, and also what type of breech is best for a natural delivery.  i have read that a footling breech is dangerous because of the cord slipping though the birth canal and shutting off oxygen supply.

you will have to discuss all these options with your midwife/conultant.

i wish you all the best in the coming weeks and whatever you decide you will make the right decision.

Hi, my baby was also breech, he was a footling breech (feet at the lowest part first) and was offered to have him turned, but i chose not too.  I was offered a c section and decided it was the best option for me, howver im, not sure about most hospitals but mine scanned me a minute before the op to check he was still breech and then carried out the section.   i was told if he had turned then i would have been sent home and wait to deliver naturally.   im sure i would have felt some major discomfort if he had turned.

hiya, my son was extended breech and i had a section at 39 weeks.  They might offer to turn the baby for you, i opted against this but loads of people have it done.  I think it is procedure these days to offer you a asection unless you are very against it x
