Get the biggest closest fitting pait of knickers you can bear!! Apart from holding the maternity pad in securely, I found it helped to have some support over my scar. When I took them off It felt weird, took me a time to get used to the feeling of it, tho it wasnt uncomfortable for long. This also worked for the cut they gave me before forceps on my second. I like the security of big knickers!!! Have a drawer full in anticipation of November when my 3rd is due!!!!!

hi i had my c-section 11 months ago.

Dont forget maternity bras and breast pads!! (have read through posts but couldnt remember if this has been mentioned!!)

I found an extra pillow helped to lay across my stomach whilst i was laying in bed holding Brooke.

A bottle of squash (i used a whole one in 3 days!!!!)

Dressing gown. Our hospital was quite chilly at night.

Hope this helps & good luck to everyone x

I had an emergency c-section with dd who is now 3.  I got dh to bring me in quite a few bottles of mineral water which i went through and i also found one of those tin sprays which when you spray cools you down.

I have a planned c-section this time and will be taking most of what has been said and water and spray again.

    Good luck x

After my 2nd cs i was feeling really sick and wobbly and extremely hot, i had only taken in nighties as suggested and found then way too hot. As a result i had to have a fan on me constantly as i was feeling faint which resulted in the baby have conjunctivitis which he still gets when its windy at the age of 5. So this time i'm planning on wearing vest tops and pj bottoms and taking a dressing gown incase, this all depends of course on how warm ur hospital wards are. I was in 3 days on both previous cs so i took 6 sleepsuits for baby, 6 vest, hat, scratch mits, 3 pairs of socks. U'll have visitors bringing you outfits for presents so u'll always have spare if need be. Another thing i took on my 2nd that i didnt the first time and will be taking again this time is Mr Muscle bathroom cleaner, on the ward as soon as ur up on ur feet they tend to prefer you to have a bath than a shower and although the hospital was cleaned many times daily i didnt want to chance the thought of the bath not being clean and having to stay in longer because of infection... The last thing you want to do is clean u might think? I went in the bath when my sister or partner came up so they could help and watch the baby in bathroom for me to relax and also help to get out of bath. Hope my experiences have helped.

I had a bag of "spares" packed at home ready for dh to bring in, avoids any inappropriate items. Biscuits and a bottle of cordial for nibbles. Magazines, crayons, juice for any siblings. Disposable pants (from Boots) great for tearing off if painful to bend or very stained. Always nighttime were sufficient for me by day 2 so no more "bricks". I also took the birth announcements in to write....x

I think most things are mentioned below however depending on what month your due take in an extra pillow and blanket.

I had DS in February and I was by the window and freezing all the time!.  I asked for an extra blanket but they said only one was issued for each bed!  I ended up using my coat as a blanket for the first night until DH bought in a blanket!!!!

Flip-flops for the shower (think of all the other new mums before you in it!) and anti-bac wipes for around the cot and table/visiting area. My ward was cleaned once in the 4 days I was there! And they didn't touch the bed table or cot! Plenty of vests/sleepsuits for lo (both mine went through about 2 a day!) Reading/puzzle books for 'alone' time & when lo is sleeping, but try to sleep when they do, it makes it easier on you. Try & wash/put on make-up each day- it'll make you feel better and you'll look good in the new baby pics!

Hi, I just had an emergency c-section last week and what I needed were:

    cotton wool balls

maternity pads - i bought a massive pack of 48 from mothercare for £4.99

    nightie

    baby grows

    nappies

    muslin/blanket

    camera

i got really bad trapped wind afterwards and was constipated for nearly a week - the hospital gave me hot peppermint drink and i found out later that codeine can make you constipated so just check with the mw's afterwards if you get this.

can't think of much else. hubby brought me in extra bits like snacks and baby grows (our newborn ones weren't big enough). i was only in 48 hours though.
