You all are such a help - having never met of knowing anyone who has had a c section under general anestetic I was really worried, but after all your replies I feel a lot happier. Thank you all so much - this really is a brilliant forum to dispell worries and get the full picture from a mothers point of view. I shall try not to worry. An imposiblity according to my husband but your replies have reassured me
Thanks Karen

I have 3 children and didn't get to hold any of them immediately - I had an episiotomy with the 1st so was being stitched, the 2nd had to go to scbu straight away, and the 3rd (now 7 weeks) was an emergency section under ga, who I didn't get to hold for over 2 hours. I have had no problems bonding with any or them, or with feeding - number 3 latched on the minute he was put on me despite the delay! Good luck.

Hi there, my first birth was a natural one but I had some problems and didnt get to see my little girl for 4 hours after being wheeled into surgery to get fixed. My husband looked after my little girl during that time. When I woke up I felt dreadful but didnt have any trouble bonding with my little girl, was just happy that everyting was ok. I am due to have my 2nd baby in a couple of weeks and have chosen to have a c section due to the trauma of the first birth. I have to have it under general anesthetic - although I have fears about it and it took me a while to come to the decision, I am not at all worried about the bonding and know my husband will love spending that time with baby until I come round. I am sure you will be absolutely fine xx

Hi Thank you for your advice. I am feeling alot better this morning about the whole thing I seem to go through fazes where I start worrying about having a C section. When the consultant told me about the low lying placenta I got about bit upset that I would not be experiencing a natural birth but I know every thing will be all right, It has differently help reading other peoples experience. I know my husband is quite excited about getting to hold the baby until I wake up. I am just looking forward to meeting the bundle thats been kicking me through the last couple of months. Thank you again for your advice -

hi hun i have had 2 c sections under general the first one was the quickest and iwas fuly round in an about 40 minutes and ended up bottle feeding due to the truma of the whole thing was nt a planned c section my second was a bit longer about an hour due to cutting my bladder but i insisted that baby was taken straight to daddy and it was the best thing i ever done they have an amazing bond to the point i get jelous my first was a complete mummys boy and still is so this is a bit of change fer me lol i think this was due to the fact he had at least 40 minutes on his own in a room to cuddle with baby somthing most men dont get with brand new baby this time am going to do the same but i want pics of them brining baby out i breast fed last time within about two hours which seemed fine with him i ve never had trouble bonding or anything but dont expect instant love it is not like that for everyone even natural births
hope this helps xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I am 38 weeks on monday and I am having my last scan to find out if I am going to have a c section under general, my biggest worry about being under general is bonding with the baby once you have woken up( this is my first baby and very nerves in general ) what if we don't bond. I am sure I am being silly and bonding can take time but I just can't stop worrying about it. Did any body else have this worry or am I being Silly.

I have been told today that it is likely that my section (due to low placenta) will be under general as I have low platelet count. You can't have spinal if platelets lower than 80, mine are 71 at the moment. The consultant has already said that there will be a haematologist present in case of haemmorage and also that baby's platelets will be checked immediately. I too am worried about breastfeeding and mising those first precious moments but as long as daddy is allowed cuddling time I will go with the flow. Quite frightened about bleeding risks.......anybody else got similar probs?

hello, ive had 2 c-sections under GA and will be having 3rd end of october sometime. I can remember how long I was under for but I know no-one was allowed in the room while they do it. With both of my boys though as soon as they were out they were wrapped in a towel and taken straight to see daddy for a cuddle, with DS1 i breastfed no problem, as soon as I was awake they put him on the bed next to me so I could feed him. Hope that helps a bit xxx

Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone else had or has been told they will need a c section under general anestetic?
Really wanted to know how long they keep you under, whether my husband can still be in the room and see / hold the baby. What happens about breast feeding cos I really want to breast feed.
Not that I really wnat a c section especially under full anestetic but as i have had 2 spinal operations and a weekened back pushing and a natural birth were out and now they have realised my scar is where you put in epidurals and aspinal taps etc... And all I want is a happy and healthy baby.
Thanks
Karen

I had to have a c section under general a week ago i was out for about an hour.. he was born at 11.21am and got taken straight 2 my mum who then held him till i woke up and asked for him. Ive not had a problem bonding with him... even though im still in abit of pain and lost quite abit of blood. I love him 2 bits.
Don't worry about bonding u will be fine.. this was also my first baby.
