I'm the worlds worst with needles hun. As soon as they head for my arm my veins hide, making it even harder, and I start to see flashing lights. But I've had 4 sections and survived. I had the numbing cream for the canula in your hand and been concious (sp) during each op. My first was epidural and an emergency section, the next was a planned section with a spinal. Third and fourth planned sections had a spinal epidural (spinal injection with epidural in place if needed). They numb the area with local anaesthetic before doing the spinal so you only feel pushing, but I did hold the gorgeous male nurses hand very tight
. Dont let the needles steal the focus...x -

im a wimp as well. i fooking hate needles. lol. ive had 2 spinal blocks and tbh they make you hunch over so far that you cant really feel the needle going in.mind you i held on to a mw for dear life and she had white marks on her arms where i had dug my (long) nails in!!!.

The chances are you wont be given an epidural with an elective section you will be more likely be offered a spinal instead which dosent hurt at all - they numb the area first before they insert the injection so nothing really to worry yourself about

i had a 45 hour induced labour follwed by an emergency c-section just over 11 weeks ago. i had pre-eclampsia and my daughter was small (4lb 14).
because i was in the throws of labour and was high as a kite on the gas and air, i didnt really feel my epidural going in.
my worry is, next time, if i had to have a c-section (which is likely due to the f*** up they have made of my bowels during the op), im really worried about having to have the epidural without the gas and air.
im so bad when it comes to needles. they had to use a very specific thin needle for bloods during my pregnancy and they had to numb my skin when it came to putting the tube in for the induction drip.
i know this is pathetic, but im really scared about this next time around. having been through 45 hours of horrendoeus labour (back to back and 0 - 8 cms very quickly) the epidural part still scares me the most.
even when i was in labour i was soooooo scared to have the epidural when the time came.
has anyone had experience of having an epidural in when they were high and labouring, compared to having one before an elective c-section?
