I hope this doesnt scare u. but i had to have a GA because they couldnt find my spine for the epidural.
When i woke up i was really dopey and couldnt focus on my son properly for about an hour.
Its been nearly 3 weeks and i don;t know if this is just baby blues or even PNA but i don't really feel that close 2 my son.. don't get me wrong i love him so much.. hate to leave him and would never let any harm come 2 him but because it took me an hour after he was born 2 meet him i keep thinking hes not mine. they swoped him. its a weird feeling.
Just if u can have an epidural have 1.
sorry if ive scared u its just how i feel.

Hi Bexar
They will probably do a spinal rather than epidural. Spinal is a one off injection, epidural is when they feed a tube in so it can be topped up (usually used during labour as it can be topped up for hours).
I had a spinal with my elective c-sec last year. I was cr apping myself about the spinal and cried all morning then when they did it I cried even more cause I felt like such a t!t. In my opinion the drip hurt more (which was not much) and the spinal just felt like a hard poke in the base of my spine.
They do numb the area first with a little injection in the flesh, which they never told me about, I wish they had as I wouldn't have been so scared had I known. So it's not as bad as you think.
Please don't be scared it really isn't as bad as your imagination thinks

I had a GA due to my epidural not working so I could feel them rummaging around inside me!! Sounds horrendous I know but to be honest it just felt like them ramming something up my wee-hole from the inside, so very unpleasant but not as bad as you might think - but - that was when they had just started working on me and he was quite stuck so they had to put me to sleep, it would have got worse. Compared to natural chidlbirth, who knows, perhaps it wasn't as painful but then it wasn't supposed to happen so they didn't make me endure it.
Ideally you would have the epidural - it should work, I was unlucky - in fact you might have a spinal for an elective - it, I PROMISE YOU, does not hurt to have one put in, its just fiddly and a bit nerve wracking but I promise it doesn't hurt.
I tell you what does hurt - and this is why you should go for the epidural - if you have a GA they shove a tube down your throat whilst you are under, and when you wake up, you have sort of phlegm that you need to cough up. Couging with a c-section scar is no fun - go for the epidural instead!!!

Hi there, they dont really like to do GA as it is more risky for mum and baby so they will only do it if they have to do it quick. I had GA with my 1st DS and spinal with my 2nd DS altho both were emergency. then i had 2 electives. as previous poster has said it is lovely to see them straightaway and cuddle them in recovery as when you are asleep it is a while before you come round. Good luck, and you will not feel pain, you do feel pressure and movement so it is quite surreal but you do not feel any pain. xx

Hi Pleeeeeease do not worry, I to had a baby in breech position, and I was not scared of the operation either just the epidural like you - I cannot tell you what a wimp I am, blood tests make me faint. Anyway I swear to you I didn't feel a thing , they spray some cold stuff on your back then that is it, you cannot feel the needle not even a sting or a pushing sensation nothing at all, plus I didn't even feel that washing up in your stomach sensation that some mums say- because I was a bit worried that that would make me feel queasy. Also just to say I could not beleive how quick it all happened no sooner are you on the operating table and it seems about 5 mins and baby is out, I hope you don't choose to get put to sleep and miss your babies first cry and be the 1st to give her a big cuddle it is the best feeling ever! Good Luck xxx

Hi, I had my son last year by emergency c-section and had to be put asleep as they needed to get him out quickly. It did take a while for me to come around and i dont remember alot about his first few hours.
I had my daughter by elective c-section six weeks ago and I choose to be awake. (they offered both) I was dreading the spinal being put in (was actually crying my eyes out in theatre) but it didnt really hurt at all. It just stung a little. I remember saying to the midwife at the time the canulas they put in the back of my hands hurt more. Also it was nice to see her just after she was born as with my son he was few hours old before I got the chance to see him.

Hiya, I worked myself up so much when I had to have my epidural, am absolutley petrified of needles and to be honest it doesn't really hurt. Think u feel a slight sting but thats it and if you try and relax and keep as still as u can its done quite quick. good luck hun.xxx

i might not be able to have an epidural so will have to be put to sleep which isnn't really what i want. It takes longer for you to come round and i am worried that i'll be the last one to meet my baby or at least know what i've had. an epidural is certainly less traumatic. My consultant is keen to try and epidural first but we are not hopeful that it'll work but he says it is the safest and best way so wants to give it a go.
It might be worrying hun but once you see your baby it'll all be worthwhile i'm sure. just let them know how worreid you are and talk ti through with them - good luck

I had an emergancy c with my little girl.
The epidural did not hurt me at all. I was not really given the choice when i had my little girl at being awake or asleep. They said it was safer to stay awake.
It didn't hurt at all it just felt like someone was washing up inside your belly. I was glad i was awake because i got to see her for the first time with my partner.
It's just hard recovering but i was fine within a few weeks. But you must remember to take things very slowly afterwards as it is a big op. x

i prob have to have a section as my baby is small and also breech im 30 weeks at min!! im just wondering how much does epidural hurt??? thats wot im scared of most!!
or i would rather be put to sleep if i request this is it poss?/ and experiences of both please??

hi,
i had a spinal with my baby four weeks ago, but it didnt work and i could feel them cutting me open so had to be put to sleep and it was the worst thing thats ever happened to me.
But have had 2 csection before and had spinals with them too and it was gd as you can see the baby as soon as its born and get hold them just after. But when asleep doing it you feel out of it for few hours so dont really know whats happening also baby is a little too
If you are given the choice do what you think is best for you and baby
