thanks for all of the advice. i'll talk to my midwife about it next week and then i think i'll just take it as it comes. i wasn't 100% sure i wanted to BF anyway and think it'll just be easier to see how it all works out. whatever is best for the baby i guess.

    thanks again

I had an emergency c section and had always planned to breast feed.  after i was woken and moved to my room i was told to start bf but he wouldnt make much effort.  i started to worry and so asked for a bottle feed.  which he took willingly and vomitted up 2 times the amount straight after.  he latched on fine after that and continued to feed well the mw advised it was due to the c section and him not being able to bring up the fluid during the birth.

Hi there, I had my baby under GA last Tuesday and told the mw that I wanted to breastfeed as soon as possible. You are woken up pretty soon after the op has finished and baby was held to my breast  by the mw as I was being woken up. I was aware of it but had my eyes closed and was very sleepy. I think if you tell the mws they will try to help you breastfeed as soon as you can after the op.

When I had dd under general I didnt come round until she was an hour and a half old.  I was given her straight away to feed as I had stated that in birth plan.  If the baby needs to be fed you can request a cup feed or to be spoon fed, but it is your choice to refuse a bottle feed.

They have to ask you. I told them to cup feed to avoid nipple confusion, but he never latched on and I do think it made an impact on his reluctance to feed. Not the end of the world though, we are both alive (just, lol)

hiya i had an emergency section under GA with my first nearly 10 years ago now and id told them id planned to BF after baby was born and they waited until Id woken up with my second I can vaguely remember someone asking if I wanted them to give baby a feed or if I wanted to try and BF but I was really drowsy.  HTH a bit, im sure if you let them know before hand they'll wait till your awake xxx

i had a ga section last nov and when i woke up they were feeding my ds with a bottle and altho i hadnt really thought about bf him i might have had i been asked or had the opportunity but once i seen him being bottle fed i was like oh i must be bottle feeding him then lol. your baby may come out starvin and if your asleep it may be the only thing that settles him/her but if you are really against it then i would request that he not be fed by bottle!!

altho i did come round tho quickly i was very drowsy and even if i had of wanted to bf i dont know if i could have and i was in alot of pain until the morphine kicked in so if need be bottle feed for once maybe an easy option! hth xxxx

When we were at antenatal class they said that if you have a section they will try and get the baby to fed within the hour of you giving birth which is great if you only have an epidural or spinal. there i s ahigh cance that i'll need a GA so what will happen then? Will they feed baby with a bottle if needed until i come round or make baby wait until i'm with it enough to feed them? I know i should have asked at the time but i hadn't seen the consultant and didn't know i was having a section when they covered this. Just thought someone might have some answers.
