My friend chose her date at her consultant appointment when she was 20 weeks. You may find though that with being so close to having the section there may be limited "spaces" to choose from. I suppose it depends on the hospital etc.

Hi, I've got tokophobia and the hospital here in Birmingham has been great. They're giving me psychotherapy to sort out the reason why I'm so afraid of childbirth (even though I know they won't 'cure' the fear) but the consultant midwife agreed that I wouldn't be able mentally to go through vaginal birth. It's my 1st, btw. So we've asked the consultant obstretician for an elective C section, and I hope she'll agree to it. If you had a bad experience with the 1st one, it makes sense that they agree to it. I guess it depends on the people you meet. They generally don't like c sections but my midwife here has been great and acknowledged that even though she wouldn't personally go for it, it's the best option for me. Chazza

hi there I had an elective c section in may 2007 and im having another elective section in 3 weeks.

My first section I had to fight for I was scared rigid of a) being preggy b) the pain

I do suffer from a bad back and had SPD so i milked it a bit so that I could get a section the doctors refused me at first til I said I would sue if they made my back worse through allowing me to go through a natural delivery they eventually gave in after a letter from my own GP.

Second time around I had no problem getting a elective section no arguments they just booked me in within 5 mins of asking what I wanted which was great and I have been able to enjoy my pregnancy this time.

So ladies if your that set on having a section then put the pressure on at then end of the day its your body and you need to do whats right for you.

    Good luck x

Hi,     sorry it's a long one!!

I too am not sure what to do! i'm 32 weeks this week and have just transfered hospitals due to moving house. met my new midwife and have been refered to a see the consultant. i've a dd who is 12 and had a bad delivery with her, i had an episiotomy after they tried to do an internal turn as she was stuck, this didn't work, then failed  vontuse, eventually managed to deliver with forceps. but they didn't have time to numb me before they cut me as they had to get her out quick. I have now learnt from my new midwife that my daughter was what they call a mid cavity deliveryShe said this is when the baby is stuck in the birth canal. No one has ever mentioned it to me before now, i'm worried that this will be the case again and dont know if i should ask for an elective section. I also suffer with SPD and there is no way i can open my legs wide enough to get upstairs on my own never mind deliver the baby. Its not something that i've really thought of before i went to see midwife, but now i know what really happened last time it's made me worry! any advise???

    Hi Ladies,

I had a terrible time with my Ds who is nearly 4 he was back to back when he was born which made the labour very very painful plus I had mega stitches down below it was so painful I never left my house for 4 weeks was just so scared!!

I am now pregnant again with my 2nd child due on the 25th April and the fear is so so bad of having a vaginal birth I dont think I could do that again so I am going to ask for an elective C Section what do you think my chances are girls?

I'm also very scared of having it done too I'm not good were pain is involved!!

I would like some advice on what you all think I should do please.

    Hope your all keeping well.

    Love Lynsey.xxxxxxxxxxx

I had an emergency section with dd1 after 32.5hour labour and no dialation. I was terrified I'd go through all that pain again but our hospital was great. I told the midwife on the 1st visit that I wanted a 2nd section, she said they would prefer me to try but it was MY decision. I saw the consultant at 36 weeks, told him I wanted a section and he said the theatre would contact me at around 38 weeks to give me a date for 39weeks. However I did go into labour 2 days before planned section but these things are never set in stone. Had the section when contractions started. Had dd2 at 00.25 and was discharged at 16.30 the same day!!!!!! hth and good luck

    Hi Ladies

when i had my ds i had an emergency section due to having a large baby 12lb 14oz i also has pre eclampcia but they made me try a natural birth. i am wanting another child so much but i dont want to go through them making me try for a natural birth again it really was hard and the pain was unbelievable. Obviously i wouldnt know if my next baby will be as big but they do say they get bigger after your 1st.  so i would like to know how you go about having an elective section?

    thanks xx
