Ive already spoke to Violet about this, but a bit reassurance for other mums.. my 4th section was my best, i had slight complications with 1st 3, nothing to shout about, a nick in the bladder, my womb not contracting shut, infections etc, my 4th however, I sailed through it, went in had it done at 8.15 am, was back on ward by 11.30, had cathetar and drip out at 3, was walking around by 4 and was out by 3 the following day ;-) I hope my 5th is as good lol, fingers crossed as it will certainly be my last as i am getting sterilized, so is my hubby.. good luck to all x

Im due to have my 5th section in 9 days, they have asked me to be sterilized every time from my second pregnancy and ive always said no its not for me,i dont want any more after this one but i dont want the choice taken away from me so i dont want it done. Luckily ive not had any problems and hopefully this one with be the same but having to have a hysterectomy is my one fear but i have had to sign a form every time to say if they cant stop the bleeding they could do it. My consultant this time gave me a big list and percentages of the chances of things that can go wrong if it had been my first section it would of scared me to death but i know all the risks now.

Good luck and im sure it will all go well, dont be pressured into anything you dont want.

Everyone has to sign the consent form for c-section that  they understand hysterestomy is one of the risks of c-section. If there is no other way to control the bleeding it is the last resort as a life saving measure.

The advice given to most doctors now is to discourage people from getting sterilised at the time of c-section- the failure rates are higher and so is the regret rate. If you don't want it, don't do it, but 4 c-sections is a lot, and they'll probably tell you 5 would be too dangerous.

I would advise against getting sterilised during a section, I had my 3rd boy and 3rd section 8 weeks ago and got sterilised and now really regret it I thought it was for the best as I am so ill while I am pg but now think I made the wrong decision.

    Hi Snowrose

Im having mine in Whiston Hospital and you?

I have an 11 year old daughter then a son 5, son 18 months and this will be my 3rd son, however I was watching Portland babies before and a lady having a section nearly fell of the bed when they told her she had had a girl.  3 scans told her a boy, so now im bit doubtful lol x

Hi i was sterilised with 4th section - had my 4 very close together, no pressure to be sterilised but we both talked about it and decided to but Hugely regret my decision now, my Lo is 6 months, i would advise waiting until all hormones had died down and then consider it if it what you want, i made the wrong choice.

    Hi Curly,

Im booked in for the 22nd. Cant wait I'm getting fed up now!! Where you having your section.

I have 3 boys and we think this one might be a girl. We've had 2 scans that have said we're having a girl but wont completely believe until she comes out and shes a she!!

    Hi Violet

My consultant asked me at my 20 week scan if I wanted to be sterilised, I said no he said thats fine he has no rights telling me wot to do, however if he opened me up this time and honestly didnt think that my uterus could handle another section, he would strongly advice me not to get pregnant again.  I was happy with that.

Snowrose when are you booked in?

Im having my 3rd boy and my 4th section 23rd Sept

    xx

Hi Violet- same as Snowrose- each time I've had a cs they've explained the risks & the chance that I may need a hysterectomy if I start haemoragging- it's just another risk of surgery- and of course the risk gets greater each time you hve surgery, but surely you know that? Also, my consultant also told me they prefer the man to get the snip as its easier to reverse! LOL! Sounds like you caught them on a grumpy day!

    Hi Violet,

I'm having my 4th in a week and a half. I was asked both this time and last if I wanted to be sterilised, easch time I've said no and they've been fine with that. This time my consultant actually said they prefere not to do it straight after a section and would rather my hubby got done instead!!

On my consent forms each time I've had a section Ive had to sign to acknowledge the risks of having surgery - all the usual things. They've said each time that if there was uncontrolable blood loss they would have to preform a hysteractomy. I think its just something they have to warn you of. My hubby and I have talked about it, like we do every time Ive had a section.

Try not to worry about it hun, I think its just something they have to advice you of incase anything does happen even though it might not.

My big worry is that I will get MRSA again which I got with my last c section!

    Take Care

well im booked in to have my 4th c section on 17th october , 1st the registar kept trying to push me into getting sterlised which i don,t want then she was saying because this is my 4th c section that the chances are i will have more bleeding because of old scar tissue etc & she said i will be asked to sign a form to say if they can,t control the bleeding i would have to have a hysteractomy    which has really upset me at the thought of having this done everytime i think about what she said i get upset & i know now i will be worrying untill ive had the c section . violet xx
