I had a c-section 15 months ago n it was really weird but i had no stiches or staples jus a long piece of string with a bead on each end. 3 days atfa i came home the midwife came n took it out by snipping one end n pulling it through. It didnt hurt it was just a strange sensation. And now i have a scar u can hardly see.

I can't even see any stitches on my scar so assume they put in dissolvable ones? The scar looks really neat and no-one mentioned having to take anything out so I'm happy (section 3 wk ago)

Most doctors feel staples give a nicer end result than stitches, are quicker to do and the person is less likely to have a wound infection. Also, if there is infection under the wound, there is the option of taking out alternate staples to let the pus and infection out while still keeping the wound closed. You can't do that with stitches.

Stitches look neater at first, but some people react badly to them and their bodies dissolve them too quickly so the wound opens, or don't dissolve them at all, so they get "spat out" of the wound months down the line. As the wound also has foreign bodies in it for weeks, it is itchier and more likely to get infected.

All docs can do both, just ask what they usually do, why they usually do it and if you're not convinced by their arguments, whether they would do what you'd like instead.

The staples look kinda cool to be honest lol, My hubby says it looks like I was zipped up pmsl.

I know my hospital they use staples for second etc sections because they hold the wound closer.

I prefer the staples because the stitches feel like they move and kinda stretch.

Think I'll see if they give u a choice, just the thought of having staples makes me feel sick!

I had staples first time around and found it very uncomfortable.  My scar didn't heal as the staple came away, but they didn't hurt when they got took out.  I will be asking for stitches this time though.

I had dissolvable sitches with my first and beaded stiches with my second. I had an elective the 2nd time but dd2 decided she couldn't wait and I went into labour 2 days before section date!! If I had her on the planned date I would have had staples. According to the midwife she told me that it all depends on the surgeon and their preference. You could always ask beforehand as they might know who you are due to see!

Ive had 3 sections and 3 times ive had staples.... as long as ur not allergic to the metal, they'll be fine hun..... They dont hurt coming out as the skin around is normally numb for few weeks after anyway, some might pull a bit but its not painful, maybe feel uncomfortable but not bad x x

Hiya was just wondering if anyone could tell me what the difference is between staples and stiches and whether u get a choice. With my ds I had stiches which dissolved. I've heard with staples you have to have them removed, is this painful?X
