I had my pre-op discussion yesterday and it took longer than the rest. Ive already bee given my meds- 3 pills. One the night before and two the next morning for 7 am. You will also be measured for support socks, have a swab of your nose done for an MRSA tests and then some standard blood work. My section is December 24th and I will have the tests done on the 16th with my GP along with a regular check up. My last section I went in the day before and did it all. I think it depends on what is deemed easiest for them and you. They then will have you sign consent forms and go over all the information of what will happen that day. You will most likely get a booklet that explains step by step what will happen. Then an aneathetist will come in and discuss the risks of an epidural, spinal or general and will talk ove pain relief for afterwards, as well as relief for things like sickness etc. whilst in theatre. You then sign all the forms and that should be it! You also will be given a chance to ask any questions.

As for the thee hours I think they may tell you that in case of waiting times etc. My discussion was while I went in for a standard consultant check up and growth scan and adding the discussion on I was there for an hour and 30 minutes.

3 hours blimey, my pre op lasted about 10 mins. All they did was take some blood and give my some antacid tablets. They are apparently 3 times stronger than the ones you can buy. They just reduce the acid in your stomach, as a side effect of the anesthetic can make you feel sick...they dont want you chucking up hald way through your section! So a combination of these and being nil by mouth will stop that happening.

yeah the tablets are to stop heartburn. i think it's incase you need a general so they can get the tube dwn easily. thye domn't expect you to need a general it's just a precaution. they checked my temp, blood pressure, measured the baby, talked me through what would happen and gave me a chance to ask any q's. they also took blood. it only took about an hour for that

I was told the tablets were to stop you getting  build up of acid (heartburn).

I was also given an extra medicine in the morning because I had really bad heartburn.

Hiya, From what i can remember, they normally take ur temp and bloods, ur blood pressure, might weigh you (so they use right amount of anaesthetic) and make you fill in forms explain risks etc which is normal procedure.

They will measure bubs and might see if they can feel the position of him/her........ just general checks really and it is a chance for you to ask questions etc

Good luck with it hun x x
