hi i was in foster care for a short period when i was 8 and the couple that fostered me, the man, was a type 1 diabetic..and whats strange is 2 years later i developed the disease too. same type 1, childhood diabetes.. obvs no way connected lol. i hope this reassures you. xxx
Hiya, from what I percieve with regards to the medical side of fostering, so long as your condition is controlled and doesn't prevent you from living a normal life etc, then I doubt there will be a problem. Your GP can make a recommendation based on your ot medical history to reassure the council or agency you are planning to foster with to say that they think your ot is fit enough. However, it doesn't stop there because the council or agency have their own doctor who will review the medical information from your GP and ultimately they will make the final decision. If you are the main carer and have no serious health issues then you should be fine. They are mainly concerned with the main carers health. Good luck.
i have always been really interested in fostering and adoption, i had planned to have an adopted family after working on an orpanage project in malawi (before madonna and the likes made it cool) oh and i have an 18 months son and plan to have more however it still really important to me to foster, my oh has type 1 diabetes and takes insulin and im worried we might be truned down because of this, friends of ours where turned down because the woman has ms even though they had 3 kids of there own and then ended up legal guardian of a friends daughter after she was dumped on them when her dad decided to up and emigrate ss where happy to let them look afetr the girl but then turned them down for fostering beause she has ms and might die (so might all of us you nenevr know whats round the corner). we are both nurses and i would be particully inerested in fostering/adopting children with disabitlities or long term medical conditons

my foster mother was insulin dependant diabetic and they obviously didnt have a problem with that. i cant believe your friend wasnt allowed to foster because she had ms! what waste of a, what sounds like, lovely potential carer!
