I read the series about 20 years ago too and loved them - must get them again to see if I still enjoy.
Agree with the PP about My Sweet Audrina too.

hated the film it spoilt the pictures i had built up whilst reading it.As for the books, i loved them- but then it was 20 odd years ago! My favourite of hers was My sweet Audrina though.

I have read the saga (the sequels and prequel. I had to have garden of shadows ordered in from the libary lol) and its by far the best set of novels I have ever read.
I dont think its based on a true story and I dont rate the movie much, Its not as emotive as the book and doesn;t follow the story exactly, (The ending is very different).

Hi - if you enjoyed 'Flowers in the Attic' then I would recommend the prequel to the book which is all about the children's mother Corrine when she was a young girl and answers a lot of questions regarding the book - it's excellent and I preferred it to flowers in the attic - it's called 'Garden of Shadows'.
The other books in the series are: 'Petals on the Wind', 'If There be Thorns' and ''Seeds of Yesterday''

Was given this book to read got halfway through and figured not my thing, don't need to read about depravity just not what floats my boat at all, but then again i don't get Chick lit/flicks in general and traumatic true stories, not my bag baby.

There's a series of books that come after that one. I hope its not true especially judging by what comes after (and of course I hope people haven't been locking their kids in attics). Haven't read these books for years.....will have to dig them out. -

Found this online, have often heard the same about the book....
""It has been widely speculated that Flowers in the Attic was based on a true story. But to date, there is no evidence to support that claim. It has always been suspected that Virginia used her own life experiences in her novels... and she has admitted that a few incidents are autobiographical, but she was not willing to disclose which pieces or which characters. She has also stated that her stories have been influenced by experiences of friends and family, her own dreams and memories, and even popular and literary fiction. When it comes down to it, Virginia is the only one who can confirm or deny... and she is, unfortunately, no longer with us.""
