If it's not the writers strike or suddenly realising they don't have a big hit for next summer, what is the reason? Only one I can think of is that they're thinking if HBP is released NOv 08, DH part 1 in 2010 and DH part 2 in 2011 that people won't be interested due to nearly 2 year gap between HBP and part 1 of DH. By putting back HBP yto summer09 they can keep interest by making DH part 1 release date public not long after HBP has finished it's run in cinemas and then do same with DH part 2 by making date for that public not long after part 1 has finished in the cinemas. Still annoying though.

I agree with SallieAnne. The strike has absolutely nothing to do with it, as if it were the strike they would not have released the trailer the other week - I mean, these things are planned ages in advance. They are hardly likely to release a trailer and then a fortnight later suddenly realise that 'oh dear we have nothing for summer 09'. Poppycóck my dears.

The strike ended ages ago, its nothing to do with it, or they would of moved the date before releasing the trailer, they nre just being butt holes.

I heard on the radio that the official reason is that Warner Bros want a guaranteed hit next summer and HBP film fits that. I still think it's the writer's strike. I'm still waiting for DH to get me GoF and OotP DVD's. I might just have to go into shop with him pick them off the shelf and say you promised and give him 'the look' that a friend has taught me.

I still can't believe that we now have to wait until the 17th July NEXT YEAR for the film. I suppose the only upside is that if they don't alter the scheduling for DH part one we should get to see it the summer of 2010 - which means HP in July, a Dvd of HBP for Christmas and then DH Pt.1 for the next summer.
It is a load of old tosh using the writers strike as an excuse - they had already released a teaser trailer so the film is done and dusted.
It is the Equus on Broadway that is the real reason if you ask me.

Potter's Christmas Plans Scuppered
14 August 2008 6:35 PM, PDT
Harry Potter fans will have to wait for their next fix of magic - the boy wizard's latest adventure won't be released until next summer.
Harry Potter + The Half-Blood Prince was scheduled to hit cinemas around the world in November, but the three month long Hollywood writers' strike, which brought filming on all major projects to a standstill over Christmas and into the New Year, has led to production problems.
According to trade publication The Hollywood Reporter, bosses at movie studio Warner Bros. have been forced to delay the film's release by eight months because they fear the movie won't be ready to compete at the Christmas box office.
A statement from Warner Bros. executives reads, "Like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films, changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of.
"We agreed the best strategy was to move Half-Blood Prince to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer."

Me and the kids are on GoF again, But im about to start HPB again ready for it. ooooh. Cant wiat!!
-
14/8/08 17:14
I just finished Half Blood Prince last night - for around the millionth time lol But I am not going to read Deathly Hallows because I want to feel in HBP mode for the film.
The film should be really good - it is so much easier to make into a film that OotP, and that first trailer is looking fab.
It is all so exciting - not quite as thrilling as a new book, but still...

Yet again we have to start a new thread. I hope this is the last time. The original from the old forums is in Debates but thought it best to carry on from whwere we left off. At least the May threads are still accessible but I intend to save just in case.
