I currently have two wedding dresses for reasons of indecision! The first one is mid calf length so the only alterations where to make it fit around the bust line. This cost me £35. The second one is not done yet, that is being slightly altered around the bust and also I am having the train cut off so the dress just finishes at the floor. I think they said it would be about £65 to have the train removed and then about £30ish for the other alterations. I depends on how many alterations/what type of alterations you need to be done.

most shops vary, the ones i have been in have been around £50-£75, depending on style of dress and what will need doing.
Almost every dress needs altering in length as they are all made for tall people (heaven knows why!!) the lady at my local shop said almost every dress comes in 6ft height!!
also if it needs taking in around the bst area (which again most do) so i think the most it will be is around £75
which is a rip off when you have to pay the price for a nice dress to start!!

Thats the thing though, mine isn't made to measure it was a discontinued line and bought off the peg so to speak so I don't know if they charge more or not.

How much roughly does this cost on average ??
I swa a lovely dress last week and put a deposit on it, after reading something the woman put on the reciept it states that the price of the dress does not include alterations. I have been told it needs altering but I don't know how much it will cost as the back zips up and I would prefer a modesty panel and lace up as it would have more give IYKWIM, I don't mind having to pay for alterations but I don't want to be having to pay something stupid like £150 for alterations when I paid £500 for a dress, I would much rather go and have one made to measure for and extra couple of hundred pounds.
I hope I am making sense and hope someone can offer words of wisdom, Thanks Elaine

Well, I went to the bridal shop and asked the prices of alterations and they said it was between £50 and £100, so not too bad, it also gave me the chance to have a proper look at the dress again and it was almost identical to the one I liked which was £250 more. So I am unconfused and happy again
