Hi, I am getting married in southern Scotland. We were offered a hand fastening, but I understand this is later on after the service. I read the words/script and it sounds lovely, but at a fee of £600 we are not going to proceed. lol
Good luck

Hi, sorry I'm not going to be much help but all the handfastings I've heard of had to be accompanied but a registry office event to make it offcial. I believe I heard that handfastings became legal in scotland a couple of years ago but we in England are way behind.
I believe that for weddings to be legally recognised they have to be officiated by a registered person & can only be held in buildings with a licence & as handfastings are generally held outside you would unfortunatly need a seperate ceremony.
I think the fact you can choose to be together for 'a year & a day' 'for life' or 'for all eternitiy' is just too confusing for our blinkered society!

Have you tried asking on any of the pagan/wiccan forums? I know a fairly good on if you need one.
hth a little?

Hi there everyone! Me and DP are planning on having a handfasting cermony for wedding. I've been a pagan for urmm 16 years now and I wished to get married in the traditions of my faith. Now a few questions....
Has anyone else here hada handfasting?
How did you find the preist/preistess to conduct the cermony?
Ta in advance.
Blessed be DP

Ty for the replies! I know a few preists and prestesses (myself included LOL), but they dont have marrige lisences. If i can someone who does then i'm on to a winner. Plus i need to find someone who follows the same path as me. I know i'm a fussy bugger but hey t only happens once hehehe
