just to let you know seen consultant at hospital this morning and confirmed prolapse, told me i am too young for surgery, and it could cause scar tissue ect ect and my baby is only 10 weeks old so things still have time to spring back into shape - yeah right, so have to go down the phisio route and see him again in 2 month, so am no further forward and i have come home feeling down and upset that and deflated, im in constant pain , cant stand for long periods and bascially have been sent home and told to just get on with it- because he feels that i am too young. i go back to work full time in 4 weeks so dont know how i will manage then, just hope that a miricle will happen and one morning i will wake and it will all have sprang back into shape, has he put it-lol

Julie, I'm shocked you've been referred so soon.
I was diagnosed grade 3 bladder prolapse 8 weeks post natal, and was told to give it 6 months!!!

hi - its 9 weeks since i had my lo and i saw my gp 2 weeks ago has i knew i had prolapsed and my gp confirmed this and said it was 2nd degree and referred me to hospital - i see them on monday, since seeing gp it has got worse, im suffering bad back pain , bleeding and i can feel it when walking and it just keeps getting lower, sorry tmi, my gp said because it was a bad prolapse it would need surgery, it is effecting all aspects of my life and getting me so down, i was so looking forward to resuming sex after having lo as i bled alot during pregnancy so we left it, and now this - i feel so fed up, i want to have the surgery so i can just get on with things - i just dont want to mess about trying other options for them not to work and still be in same position - if not worsr 6 months down line - but will they even consider me with my lo only being 9 weeks???

PS the lifting and driving I was told 4 weeks, and I know I overdid things, so maybe I've ruined things for myself.
Lost less bleeding and discomfort than I expected to be fair.
Sorry, I'm feeling a bit upset talking about it now!

Munchkinbump,
I don't know whether I ought to tell you this, but I want to tell you how things are. Surgery isn't to be taken lightly and isn't always what it's cracked up to be,
I'm finding now 5-6 weeks post op, that things are feeling like they're gradually sinking again already. I've not seen the gynae yet, they will assess me on Tuesday. My bladder doesn't feel like it's much different now than what it was before TBH. The rectal prolapse is gone (so it's not all bad!), but I have an unsightly bunch of flesh/skin at the entrance to my vagina where they repaired it.
I'm feeling disappointed right now after initially feeling really positive. My sexual cinfidence was the worst affected with the prolapse, and now I'm wondering whether this surgery will give me the new lease of sexual confidence I was told it would.
Sorry to dampen things. I will keep you posted on what the gynae says on Tuesday. x

Consultant said I have a slight prolapse and I am thrilled that the muscle tightness will be improved, my main concern has always been the appearance (and I'm sorry for tmi...) the internal skin which can now be seen after giving birth twice so close together. My consultant has said by cutting through this skin and tightening the whole thing up I will be happier with the appearance.
Have you had much bleeding/discomfort? And what about lifting/driving etc. I've been told 6-8 wks....
Fingers crossed...

Munchkinbump,
I'm not sure what you mean when you say you've never bothered about the muscle tightness... The muscle damage is prt and parcle of the prolapse, that's why things aren't where they should be, so if it wasn't tightened, your organs would just fall again.
I do feel like I can have sex again, but I do feel very different physically so I think it'll be a whole lot like having sex again after a vaginal birth, you know what I mean?

I agree, it should be talked about more openly - tons of women must go through this and just kep it to themselves all their lives!! Not for me I'm afraid, no matter how much it made me cringe and feel sick to point out exactly what I wanted him to correct I did it because it needs doing for my sanity.
Please keep us updated, understandably I'm really nervous but very glad of any stories which people are prepared to tell. Thanx again.
I never really bothered abt the muscle tightness but this gets done as part of the procedure, is it really that good? And do you feel like you could have sex again? Doc reminds me a lot of how things can be worse post-op but prefer to hear good things really.

Hi Munchkinbump,
I'm 4 weeks post op now, and haven't had sex yet. Some stitches are still in place and I've not been discharged yet. I've had a good feel around and the posterior repair was all v low down, and things feel fairly normal there... ie i can empty my rectum properly... nice. The anterior repair is much higher up and things don't feel like I expected them to yet... I'm still taking things easy though, not straining or lifting etc, but my bladder's functioning normally, my wee comes out without any fiddling about now! LOL!
When I squeeze my PF muscles with my finger inside, the muscle movement is hugely improved. Big big difference. I used to get fanny farts just bending over sometimes ... not had that since either! Sorry to be graphic, but we all suffer the same things, we ought to talk about it! LOL!

Well he agreed! Booked in for anterior and posterior repair as I have a slight prolapse. Bricking it now, he goes on a lot about how there can be complications and that this type of op is uncommon in some1 my age. I disagree and just wish he'd remind me the positives more. Oh well, 20th may I go in for it.
Those that have had surgery - are you experiencing any side effects? Doc goes on about how sex can be v painful cos of scar tissue - how have you gone on? And do 'things' feel and look better?
Thanx

Hi TaylorCaz
Since posting i had my routine scan at 13 wks and the doc came to speak to me. She spoke to me about my prolapse (as i'd gone to the hospital previously about it) and basically said they would do follow ups after the birth of bump and that they would address this as a later date. It seems i may have various options depending on the severity of it once giving birth but assured me it would be dealt with. Although I have said to dh that they can take anything out of me to make me feel better down there, it was a little weird hearing someone actually say they could remove my uterus, i think hearing it makes it sound so final ! So i'll make sure i harrass them till the cows come home until its dealt with.
Regards,

Well, I have consultant appointment in morning and after months and months of psychosexual counselling I'll find out if he will do surgery for me.
I have posted in this forum before but a while back, in short I have some sort of prolapse but not as severe as some of you report, I asked my consultant to remove the bits I can now see after having my second and last baby in Jan last yr. He said I could do with muscles tightening and some internal skin removing but not very severe really. I'm 30 yrs old and he normally does this sort of op on older women. I'm adamant I want it done though so fingers crossed he'll agree tmrw.

Hello again.
Well all I can say to anyone having issues, get them looked at. If you're too embarrassed, then there's only one alternative!!!
As for drs and hospitals being crap, can you get a second opinion?
18/3/08 20:01
Hi, sounds like what i have and i did go to the doctors today to see what has happened. 5 weeks since i had son, first thought it was swelling from birth but it's not. Doctor said it's like back passage has got a hernia, can either wait couple of months to see if it improves or be referred to gynaecologist. If you are like me whenever you get a chance your thinking about it because you can constantly feel it - exactly like you said asthough you have a tampax in. If you don't go and see your doctor it won't get sorted out, the sooner you go the quicker they will get it sorted.

Hello sorry to post on this thread but I've been reading witho interest. A year last March I was referred to the Consultant because I had terrible stress incontinence after 3 children and was told by the lady that examined me that I had a posterior and anterior prolapse and they would need to try physio, do uronynamic studies etc before they would consider surgery. I went for the physio and they said basically it wouldn't improve things suffiently to see a change. I then (after 9 cancelled appointments on the hospitals part) had my urodynamic study done in Feb. When I went back in March she examined me again and said it wasn't a prolapse it was severe stress incontinence and I needed a TOT sling fitting and she booked me in there and then and I go in next week. So from being told I had a prolapse I suddenly haven't (even though it feels like I have!) I have something else. I dread to think what they will find next week!!!! Good luck to everybody going through the system and just keep pushing. Age is not a valid reason in my eyes if you are fully aware of all your options. They wouldn't do a hysterectomy for me at the same time (period porobs - another story!!) as I'm 39 this year and they don't like to do them on anyone under 40!! (even though hubby has had a vasectomy and we definately don't want anymore children). Sorry going on now but just keep fighting for what you need. xxxxxx
