My midwife said to me pretend you are stopping yourself from weeing, holding in a tampon and stopping yourself from passing wind all at the same time!

If u having troubles with knowing if ur doing the right thing ur midwife should be able to help u or give u some direction-or even ur health visitor mine was lovely and could tell i found it difficult and went through it with me when she done my home visit.

I would really recomend that u do them as i had a tear too whilst delivering my son, im now pregnant with twins 3yrs later and lets just say im glad of the control lol!!! x

Hi, you should have been given a leaflet from your midwife regarding pelvic floor exercises.  I would go to the receptionist at your doctors and ask for one but in the meantime there are different pelvic floor exercises.  Basic ones are where you just try and squeeze your muscles down below as if you are trying to stop weeing mid flow if you know what I mean.  I would definately get info from your doctors though.

... how do I actually do pelvic floor exercises? I gave birth 2 weeks ago and had a 3rd degree tear, so have been advised to do pelvic floor exercises but I don't really get how to do them. It says to do 10 x 10 second lifts 3 times a day but I don't really know what I'm doing. I think I can do them standing up but am not sure I'm doing the right thing. My HV suggested that I do them when I sit down to feed so I don't forget them but I can't seem to 'lift' anything when I'm sat down and I did read that you shouldn't tighten your stomach muscles when doing the lifts? Any guidance gratefully received....
